I'm putting in a better steering box but have ran out of the normal gearbox oil. At work we have Castrol Alpha SP in various grades that we use in many different gearboxes including worm drives. Would this be ok to use in the steering box?

Depends, if there slow running I would of thought so.

I actually use grease, the same grade as the one shot stuff for land rover swivel hubs.
