I couldn't get my head around the proposed rules and the answers I was getting back from the msa. But tonight, I think I figured it out.
If you take a standard landrover to an msa event they are happy with it because it has the manufacturers type approval. And a rear mud gaurd that finishes well ablove the axel line is fine. Infact, almost every make you look at is built that way.
But if you tray-back the truck, it no longer has type approval, so msa think you should go to a default 'centre axel line' which is clear cut, as it is easy to measure. And an ALRC vehicle meets an OE profile, so it complies as being based on somthing Type Approved.

So I may be the last person to go "Ah, I see", but I got there in the end Very Happy

I take it you're happy with 56.2.3 then? Very Happy

Woa, lets not go that far Very Happy
Just pleased to peep behind the curtain for a change.
And see that ironically, by tray backing a winch challenge truck, the rear clearance is reduced by a more stringent reg being applied. Although 56.2.3 could be applied to everythingif it is passed?

Outside msa things are still mega different. The Midget Oval car is still fine to race with one foot by the oil filter, one by the starter and a knee by the fuel pump. Battery is under the left thigh. Single skin fuel tank behind the seat, and as much speed as you can get out of the 1.4 engine on a short oval track.
I'm not seeing where the msa are going with all this, but one thing's for sure, after continually upgrading my truck since 1997 to meet ever stringent regs, I'm not expecting it to stop any time soon Laughing

So I fabricated two outriggers last night to get ahead of the curve. I aim to get them as close to the back tyre as possible so they are out of harms way as much as possible. But be strong enough to stand the truck on. I'm not well into the rule process, but as far as I see, this years consultation is next years rule.

Yes and no!

Following the consultation they will go to Council for ratification in September if there are no issues to be dealt with by the Committee.

The regs regarding ROPS for comps and hill rallies will be recommended for 2013 and mandatory for 2014.

All the others, including 56.2.3, will be introduced from 01 Jan 2013.
