Tesco at the moment are doing veg oil for £1 a ltr.

I do not have a twin tank set up but could i just mix it straight in the fuel tank say 50:50? I have a 2.7tdi Terrano?

Be careful whether it is veg or sunflower oil. I run my unmodified Ford Maverick 2.7 (same vehicle) on 50/50 but she doesn't like sunflower oil as much as veg oil. If its warm you'll probably get away with it but you will need to change your fuel filter and engine oil more often, you'll need to initially change the filter after a few hundred miles as veg oil cleans all the crap out of your fuel lines.

well thats strange.

sunflower oil has the highest calorific value out of the three liquid oils (soy, rape and sun) and therefore vehicles run better on sun than soy

Confused

ps, sun, rape, palm and soy are all "veg" Wink

I think sun is the best as well.

also never had problems of new veg oil dragging crap through - put some bio in and your filter will block in no time as it strips the crap....

The problem I have found and Ivorbiggin had on his Maverick as well seems to be the viscosity causing erroneous MIL from the fuel quantity adjuster sensor and occasional stalling. It may be specific to this engine but I felt I had to pass it on.

i`ve had a good fiddle with different oils today, and really cant find any difference in the viscosity of the oils available. admittedly they weren't scientific fiddles, but there you go. have you tried adding 10% petrol to reduce the viscosity in the first place?

sounds lke the engine is too clever for its own good Think

I have added petrol which seemed to help, but never more than 5 litres in an 80 litre tank (6.25%). The engine runs fine apart from being a little lumpy around 1500rpm and the light occasionally appears when you suddenly back off the throttle completely and the revs drop through 1500rpm. Doesn't do it on 100% dino though. I am, in the next couple of weeks, going to be fitting a heated filter from a Pajero and a coolant heat exchanger to see if that helps.

Thanks for the replies gents, might be a bit more involved that i orignally thought by sound of it then. Only save about a £12 a fill up so might just wait till my bio diesel plant is working.

As far as I am aware the only difference between the 2.7TD and 2.7TDi is an intercooler and a more electronic system (correct me if I'm wrong). My 98 TDi is still indirect injection.

yeah, but like i said, your engine could be too clever for its own good.

the more electronics, the more sensors, the less it likes veg.

Try telling my girlfriend, with her super duper Peugeot HDi that my engine is clever! Very Happy I am keeping my eyes open for a Musso, if one comes along at the right price I may go for it, just hard to find a diesel engine I can live with every day with few electronics.

The only thing that has put me off changing vehicle is the "better the devil you know" theory. I've been tempted but never quite got to the point of going through with it.

If I had a buyer for the Maverick lined up I think I would go for it but I can't afford to but before I sell unfortunately.
