Last night i posted a thread about an oil company promotion that was giving away free tickets to racing venues. Tonight i see that my post has disappeared.
So ive come to 2 conclusions.
Either the Difflock mafia (you know who you are) have removed my post and have set about buying all of the promotional stock from the oil company in order to sell all the free tickets on, no doubt to fund something more sinister
OR
The post was removed by the mods as it was seen to be advertising an oil product in direct competition with the oil products that are on offer in the Difflock shop.
After carefull consideration i have come to the conclusion my post was pinched by the Difflock mafia, surely if it had been deleted by the mods they would have the manners to PM me to say "Oi you cant post that because"

I think it is polite to let the Admin know if you intend providing a beneficial service to the Difflock Community which is not for personal gain as it can be seen as advertising which gets the Admin annoyed as its his train set apparently.
See no commas.

Ive thought long and hard over this.
The attitude of "The moderators have better things to do with their time rather than sending PM's every time someone doesn't read, and/or abide by, the rules" simply stinks and is an attitude that is not conducive to a good buisness accumen.
While i realise that the Difflock shop actually pays for this forum, it would do well to remember that its the Difflock community/forum members, that helps keep the Difflock shop successfull.
While ive never purchased anything from the Difflock shop, dosnt mean to say i might not be a potential customer, (currently renovating 3 L/R's at the Royal Military police museum, Hampshire.) so a "I have better things to do attitude" dosnt inspire me to ask the difflock shop for parts or help
Yes i have read the agreement, and theres nothing there that states i cant give a tip of the wink to a good deal that would benefit other members of the forum, and i hasten to add, has no benefit towards me.
Cash troll!!, no just trying to do a good turn.
Last section of paragraph 5
The Administrator's and moderator's word is final, no arguments will be entered into, we do not operate any kind of Freedom of Speech policy. If you annoy the Administrators or moderators you should expect to be expelled without notice.
Yes i accept your word is final, after all theres nothing i can do about that is there.
"No arguments will be entered into".
Ive put my point across, if you counter it then its you that have started the argument , not me.
"We do not operate any kind of Freedom of Speech policy".
Freedom of speech is a UK right, unless its insighting racism or terrorism, you need to rethink that one.
"If you annoy the Administrators or moderators you should expect to be expelled without notice".
Odds on ive annoyed you, Sound the last post.

Well said that man.
I think the post deleting has gone OTT since Richard and Simon sold it.
That`s two of us for the chop then

I agree wholeheartedly with the previous two posters. Difflock has become almost oppressive in its draconian treatment of rule breaches. It could also be argued that some of those rules are ill thought out and in one particular case potentially unlawful.
Let's look at the commandments.
1. Other forums.
Why not? The whole point of Difflock is for people to provide useful information to others. In many cases that information may be on other forums. Is it not easier and more logical to post a link? For example,
I've broken my leg.
Ah, there's a load of information on www.ivebrokenmyleg.com/forum
No. This would apparently be deleted.
If someone says Difflock is rubbish you should join xfercase.com fair enough but not the first example.
2. Naming and shaming
I agree this one even though I've had a run in with a previous major sponsor of Difflock that was maybe an insurance company. Difflock must protect itself.
3. Cyber bullying
I totally support this policy.
4. Notifications
Where's the opt-in/out option? An organisation is only allowed to send electronic marketing communications in the case where the email address was collected ‘in the course of a sale or negotiations for a sale’ otherwise there must be an opt-out facility. Simply joining the forum does not meet these criteria.
5. A word from the owners
I broadly agree with the sentiment although there are many cases where products or services outside the remit of Difflock may be of interest to members. You have to clearly define what is an advert. As far as I'm concerned a post along the lines of "KwikFit have 2 for 1 on MTs at the moment" is perfectly acceptable.
5. Advertising
See above. I accept the view on commercial advertising and it should be paid for. I completely disagree on the classified placement rules but that's just me being bolshy.
As you can see I broadly agree with the reasons for the rules and their feeling. I think the admin and moderators could have a more consistent and sympathetic approach to their implementation. I feel the current practice of arbitrarily deleting and editing posts is driving members away. I cite the case of the Lada section, this was a vibrant and well visited section (3rd in post count at one stage) and now it's a wasteland. This is directly because of the admin/moderators treatment of a number of posts last year.
I like Difflock but it's become increasingly more tedious having to think about what you post everytime you visit. Your members are your greatest asset - bear that thought in mind with every post you arbitrarily delete. The members can do without Difflock. It doesn't work the other way round.

There has been no change in moderating policy. The current mods are the same as during Simon and Richard's ownership and they apply the same rules as they did then.
The mods are volunteers and can't spend all their time debating the rights and wrongs of their judgements. Sometimes quick judgements are made but most times these are later reviewed, and discussed with the other mods, when there is more time.
The owners will be pointed in the direction of this thread, as they always are when there is dissent, and the mods will, as always take their guidance.
UPDATE
Having discussed this with the owners the thread has been re-instated.

I don't think I have ever had a link deleted, and the last one I posted was to another forum where a member was prototyping a light bar in order to sell them.....
I must just have a face that fits.

This whole discussion came up when the revised/rewritten/republished forum rules (call it what you like) happened with many of the same comments being made at the time.
However we like Difflock as a community so we tolerate it (and it does protect the forum) as it isn't that intrusive although every once in a while one will slip through and unnecessarily fall foul of the regieme.

Just to add my thoughts on the matter :
How about rather than editing or deleting posts the topic / post / whatever that the moderator has spotted (and yes I agree that in some cases just get rid) move the post into a holding pattern where several mods can vote on if the post should be re-instated / the merits of the post - that way there'll be a consensus between the admins / mods and nobody will feel like X member of the difflock mafia have picked on me and removed it etc
I have to deal with a very similar situation every day only my modus operandi is e-safety for the students on our curriculum network. Anything that the safeguarding software flags up (we have software that will take screenshots and ban users from websites etc etc) that I decide is sort of a grey area goes into a reviews folder and other safeguarding officers inspect and moderate or move on it accordingly - that way there's never any one man has the final say so (even if it is me when levels of access are counted up, but that's only because I maintain the servers).
Anyway, I've had posts removed before, probably due to my own stupidity or just posting something funny or pointless and that's fine, I'm sorry for trouble I caused guv, but I don't know of any posts I've had removed that have been about the more serious stuff that have prompted me into any action.
Also, what was all this I heard about cheap oil or something... Ivor?
(oh and edit - I have no idea if the mods already have something like the above)

That's exactly what happens, in the majority of cases
