Hi all, just a query, i have a 99 plate disco 2, its got heavy duty front and rear bumpers, rock sliders and full under body protection, i was wondering which suspension i need to add a 2" lift? are there any brands that stand out from the rest? cant afford OME by the way,lol...

also disco 2 diff lock or lack off, where can i purchase the linkage to set this back up for the rear diff...?

best wishes.. Very Happy

Whats your price range.

what do you want to use it for

do you want full dislocation

do you want an electric locker, manual locker, or air locker

do you want an LSD or a spool/lockright style/detroit locker..

do you want front and rear lockers, or just rear, or just front?

did you try google?

used mainly for greenlaning and the odd pay and play day, price depends on what she who must be obeyed says, lol, i want a 2" lift so i can get a slightly bigger tyre on, its been converted to springs at the rear, i did away with the airbags, but i'd like to uprate the suspension from the standard set up, the rear diff lol, i'm led to believe the d2 aint got one, its got all the electric stuff, traction control, etc, i'd feel a lot happier and safer knowing i had something in place lol..

i've trawled thru google and it seems load capacity is an issue with suspension, i have a lot of added weight on mine, just wondered what you guys would recommend...? Very Happy

the D2 does have a rear differential

the Traction control (i am sure i will be corrected if wrong herE) will be handled via breaking one wheel (the spinning one) so the other turns.. or by way of an electronic torque vectoring differential internal, which i doubt unless someone has spent megabux on the car.

you can get both LSDs and manual lockers for them.. do a search for Discovery2 Rear diff lock..

if you mean the CENTRE difflock then that depends on the year..

http://www.discovery2.co.uk/diff_lock.html

have a look here.. some good stuff.

Get the linkage from a breakers. Although some transfer boxes do not have the spiggot in the casing. You will need to check.

As for suspension then give Gwyn Lewis or David at Llama 4x4 a call.
They will give you good advice and you can do it in stages so you don't have to buy all in one go.

i beleive dont ashcroft do a kit for the d2 if your box doesn't have the lock in place, as some had the lock but not the linkage others didnt have the lock.

they went through 3 stages.. oldest to newest..

1 had everything
2 had the locking box without the linkage
3 had nothing.

1 is good, 2 is ok 3 is bad obviously

BUT you can hjust get hold of the gubbins needed if its the second one, and you can look for the Tbox from an older one and the gubbins if its the third..

Keep in mind longer and or harder springs to give a higher ride height will not make any difference to what size of tyre you can run.

The only way to do this is to start chopping the body.

Extended bump stops to just move the available travel lower down will result in a less capable vehicle in most every real world situation.

I'd spend your cash on some recovery equipment and learn the limits of the vehicle as it is and modify it to suit what you want when you know what you want.

The difflock is in the front output of the Tcase, which is easily swapped.

The front off a TD5 Defender T case will fit, these should have a difflock fitted..

And i'm sure with a 2" lift you can fit 265/75/16 tyres...

Ans you may if you have the later box with out the bits rather than just the linkages missing

And the tyre will fit with a 2" lift and will tear the side out of your truck when you are off raod unless as stated above you either move the bump stops down or cut the body work to let the tyre travel higher

Imo landrover were right with the air bags more ride hight when you need it and less when you want the stability best of both
