Ian said in an Email passed on from Joe. It passes through an area un-seperated from the crew. I thought it was only hot things or pressure pipes? But that's what he says about mine. So I kind of have to take his word on it. Thought it was worth passing the info on.

Thinking on, if it is a 3" rubber tube in a 3.5" ally tube, then I guess it isn't exposed to the crew?

I do and I don't see the logic. Yes it could have petrol in the cab, but I've never seen one go up, but I've seen rolls into water. Realistically you're more likely to drown than burn to death, as you have a fire extinguisher, but not aqua lungs Very Happy
(Also people tend to notice a fire)

If you are fighting our corner, please keep up the good work, and thankyou for your efforts so far.

No probs. Had a bit of a busy 4X4 response day but will do a bit of digging when I get a chance.

Got a reply back Very Happy
They've never failed me on an answer yet Cool

Misunderstanding on my part, as I think it's more about the intake behind the cab area with no barrier, coupled with a rubber hose. And lets face the reality, that hose could be on fire inside, and you may not know until it drips on you Shocked
Luckily the bit over my head is ally tube.

But its still a good clarification. If I've got the concept right; Exposed rubber hose that does anything connected with the engine shoudn't be in the cab. Anything metal-tube wise that isn't hot is okay.
And if you have no front or rear windows as a flame barrier, the air pick up point shouldn't be near the crew.

No idea where to run it to now though Confused

And fair play to any scruteneers for wading through the regs on a weekly basis Very Happy

To be honest there are very few vehicle regs specific to cross country and Technical try to impose existing regs. The prime example is the one regarding wheel coverage. The existing rule was designed for saloon and rally cars and is totally impractical for 4X4's, even in standard form. Hence the reason why the CC Committee have proposed the amendment that is out to consultation.

This is not a done deal so if you disagree submit your views to the email address in the consultation doc and the reasons for them.

And I was right off quick for a look, but it doesn't mention coming down level to the axel line at the back?

56.2.3. Be equipped on all wheels with mudguards which present no sharp edges and cover the complete wheel (flange+rim+tyre) around an arc of 120
degrees. This minimum coverage must:
a) be achieved with a continuous surface of rigid material within which ventilation louvres may be fitted. The tyre must not be visible when viewed from above.
b) extend forward ahead of the axle line.
c) extend downward behind the wheel.

That's more like what I have now Confused
And "extend downward behind the wheel" is pretty flippin' vague Sad

To be fair, the first part of the wheel coverage rule is part of the C & U Regs!

Yeh, that might have come up talking to msa about tray backs. If it doesn't meet C&U then it's kind of disliked, even if it's full offroad. Suprised they are okay with bead locks. Or havn't realised whats going on there yet Wink
