not so much the engine, its the combination of the merc 5cyl 2.9td lump and bosch fuel pump. perfect storm as far as wvo is concerned. starts as minus temps takes loads of abuse and is cheap to fix.
most reliable diesel engine around.
ever tried to race a sprinter van? same engine.......

might of tried a sprinter back in the days when i had my escort van. non turbo.
i used to race a scooby rb22 is it? the richard burns special.
most of the time its not speed that gets me to win its pure stupidity, n courage n faith in my tyres

Isn't the 2.9 the same engine that's in the old merc G-wagon as well? Do you know roughly what yours does to the gallon Ged?

and seeing as i use wvo, ive never really measured.
i can get around 100 miles for 20L ish i think......

Thought it was. No doubt the engines ability to run on just about anything that's an oil has got a few german squaddies out the s***t in the past.

ive just rushed 180L through the filters, 120L to go in two containers in the boot and 60L in the tank.
it came out a bit dark, and a bit watery (no time to dewater it)
but no worries, ive added 5% misfuel and thats my jubilee holiday to rhyader towing the caravan sorted.
