Plan on getting a 90 and using all the gear off my auto disco , question is will the pedals from the disco fit straight into the 90 ?

i would say... yes the disco's will fit... but why would you bother, just remove the 90's clutch pedal and save yourself a lot of work

Thanks for replies , it`s a 95 300tdi , also as the engine only starts in p or n , is this a mechanical or electrical decision , as in what part of the loom would I need or not need at all ? hope I have explained that properly.

Both. There is a switch on the side of the gearbox that controls the starter inhibit circuit and the reversing lights. The switch is operated by the shifter cable.
Your Disco will have a electronically controlled throttle I expect. The easiest option would be to fit a Injection pump with a cable operated throttle.
I'm fitting a 300TDi with and auto box into my 90 at the moment, mine must have come from a earlier Disco as it has a cable throttle. I must confess that when I bought it I had no idea that there were such things as electronic throttle control on Disco's, I just got lucky.
Good luck with the conversion, it will be much easier if you get a 90 that already has a 300 engine. Your engine and auto box will drop straight in then.

the idea is a new richards chassis with 300 engine mountings fitted , with rear winch tray , the 90 I am getting has a rotten back end and the guy i`m getting it off is using my v5 and steering for a whitbread .I think my injector is cable operated , it has 4 holes for the kick down position , is this right ?

Yes if you have a cable throttle the wiring is easy. The wiring from the ignition switch to the solenoid relay is just re routed via the gearbox switch.

No, no changes to the bulkhead. I've used a 300 bulkhead, seatbox and tunnel. The transfer box lever comes through nicely in the rear of the hole. I've made a console to hold the shifter.
My build thread is over on LR4x4 if you want to have a look;

Still waiting for the console/shifter surround to be covered. I'll post up some pics when I get it back.

Your disco could be either , its FBW if it has a large black cover on side of pump where a bunch of electrical wires go in .
The inhibit (start in N or P) is a electic switch as mentioned in other post.
In view of what I percieve to be your skill level (wiring wise) probably best to convert to pump with cable operation (not FBW electronic) . If you have someone with good electrical knowledge then stay lecky throttle , as you can retain immobiliser function.
With 300tdi chassis it alljust drops in . you can use disco downpipe and connects up to 90 exhaust silencer system.
The seatbox will foul on front of hi/lo difflock housing if not 300 tdi or later TD5 . You can use disco rad and intercooler, if you cut off extended mounting pegs and weld just pegs back on . If you stay edis (FBW) then airflow meter and pipe will bolt onto LH inner wing with slight mod. HTSH

Hi, I've done a couple of these conversions now and have come out very well, even if I say myself!
Anyway the best way I have found to do the pedal assembly tidily is to remove the defender clutch pedal/cylinder completely and make a plate to cover hole in bulkhead. The discovery brake pedal will not fit defender master cylinder, What I do is cut the big pedal pad off the disco lever (welded under pad) and fit it to defender pedal lever, refit rubber and you have a tidy pedal assembly looking original with just throttle and brake, with big pad.
To make use of the start inhibitor, there is a wiring block on left side of autobox, find the wire for P and N then conect in to your switch wire to starter motor, this will not allow a feed to starter if not in P or N, The reverse wire and earth is in the same block.
Just for info, I have also moved rad assembly back 1" 1/2 and fitted discovery g/box oil cooler in front mounting on rad frame.
Hope some of this may be of help to you, when done it is an excellent conversion

For some reason I cant get photos on! PM your email and I'll send them that way.
I am pretty sure you cant use disco brake pedal ass. without major modifications???? maybe somebody has, but I've alays kept defender one - remove it from bulkhead and turn it upside down and you will see factory weld holding foot pad to lever, I have carefully cut weld and then fitted bigger auto disco pad to defender lever, then refitted to bulkhead, tidy job

So was mine Colin. I move the auto shifter there so it sits where the original gear lever comes through the tunnel, i make brackets to come off transfer lever housing and mount shifter on them. A hole needs to be cut in the big bracket holding transfer lever to main gearbox, you will see it big and flat. This will allow shifter cable through to give correct positioning. In my opinion better than back where the centre seat/cubby box should be???

I've got my console back now. Here are a few pics.
I also considered putting my shifter in front of the transfer lever but decided that it would be too low and too far forward for me. Also it would be too far back on top of the seat box, hence the custom console.
Just got the top covers to fit.

Thanks!!

Got the drivers seat fitted today and the shifter position is perfect for me. The lever falls nicely to hand.

The deal for the donor 90 is done , r reg full cage , truck cab , whitbread extreme wing kit , its had a 300 in it , chassis a bit broke at the back so may get new richards and have a rear tray put on at same time , or even put new rear quarter on , see how it goes , will post picks when build starts ( mid August ) .
