noticed today that my 2003 ranger diesel, is a bit noisy, before i go out and scratch my head in the rain I thought id ask if anyone knew if it has hydraulic or mechanical tappets and if so what the tolerances are?
I have tried google but all I can find is american sites

If they were hydraulic, they would normally only be noisy if they were starved of oil?
Clearances should be
Inlet 0.05-0.15mm
Exhaust 0.15-0.25mm
both checked cold. curtesy of Auto Data.

they were only overly noisy at startup, so could be just the oil not getting around properly. I will check the valve tolerances tomorrow and see what theyr like. would anthing else be causing the noise, definatly top end
