I've just been quoted £120 for a 13mm steel winch cable for my Superwinch E14P or £150 for 40m (it's the long drum version). These are with latch hooks.
These prices seem a tad on the high side - can anyone recommend an alternative supplier please?
Thanks,
Ian

I'd suggest a google but at those prices it would be better to pay a few quid more and get a plasma

LRS offroad do a plasma for not a lot more. Might be worth giving them or other winch retailers a call, they sometimes have steel cables laying around where people have ordered a new winch but wanted a plasma instead.

Plasma is synthetic but not all synthetics are Plasma ...
Another vote for synthetic rope for play/competition use. I use Plasma and it's never broken under normal competitionuse but I've seen all the others shred quite easily.
Synthetic is defo worth the money.

When I bought my last winch I replaced the wire rope with Plasma from new. I sold the wire rope for about £30!

the first ever challenge event i did we had wire rope fitted not knowing any different, at the first section we had quite a few spectators until we spooled out. it wasnt til it snapped that we realised why they dissapeared.
to be honest they really are dangerous you would be better spending the money on some synthetic, rather than replacing your windscreen and digging shards of glass out of your eyes after the wire snaps.

If you do want to refit a wire rope (synthetic is better) due cost or whatever.
just put "winch cable" in ebay search, there are a number of them on there at the moment

Got my last wire cable from http://www.swindonlifting.com/
150 foot 8mm multistrand fibre core for £75 inc vat IIRC & my hook was swaged to the new cable too.

Have you got a lifting place nearby? I got a new winch wire for my winch and a new hook attached via thimble for £20!

So that would make the OP's £120 for 150 foot of 13mm a good bargain by comparison...
Mind you my 8mm Dyneema cost me £99 for 150 foot and I know which I'd rather have
