As Above really, been doing some searching and i seem to have all the bits to make my own kit lying around, heater elements, thermostats pumps pipe 45g barrels etc?

Does anyone have any "recipes" all the ones on the internet differ. And what is used oil worth per Liter?

Oh and i best check, ive read that i cannot put any form of fuel other than pump derv in the TD5, but with a 200tdi 90 on its way im guessing i could?

Any help would be appreciated

Henry Smile

firstly you need to differentiate between Veg oil and biodiesel.

do you intend to just filter or chemically alter?

Any diesel will run on Biodiesel, if your talking veg oil thats completely different. You will need to find out if your engine will survive on veg, many wont.
If its common rail then forget veg oil.

Sorry never knew this part of the forum existed Embarassed

Ged im talking about bio fuel, not filtered oil like you are doing? I guess?

Looking to run it in a 200tdi out of a disco. How come the majority filter rather than convert to bio fuel? Is this cost related or time effort?

cost and no need to make bio for some of the 4x4's we use Wink

plus if you get it wrong with bio its not good, with filtered veg oil the worse that can happen is you get alot of water go though the fuel system or a blocked filter, also you may need to replace the fuel pump seals but dont do that unless it starts to leak Wink

no need to be sorry mate. just much more likely to get the right answer in here is all..

bio-diesel is quite a complicated chemical process, and requires refinement and money..

filtering the crap out of used veg oil is a simple process (well, more simple) as there are no other chemicals to run it on.. car smells like a chip frier when its running tho lol

mine runs fine on 100% filtered veg oil, so no need to make bio here. as parrot says, one slight slip up with bio and you have 1000L of *****.

i have an ibc full in work that someone got the maths slightly wrong and its no good for anything.

not even the musso would run on it. Shocked

veg oil prices i can help with.

waste oil retails to public at 60-75 pence per litre

waste oil trade price is about 53 ppl to the refineries, SPAM (which can be used for bio has taken a £30 per tonne hit last week due to the uncertainty of the proposed duty change.) retails at about 40ppl.

remember that if you are to produce more than 2500L per year you will need to register as a fuel producer with HMRC. people will say dont bother, but do you think they dont monitor regular sales of methanol? also, most places will now require waste transfer notes as the EA checks are becoming more common. also, you really should have a waste carriers licence for transporting the waste home with. Now no doubt some will come on and poo poo what i have said, and to be fair, the chances of being caught are slim, but the penalties are severe. i have to abide by all of the above, but then i collect in excess of 8000L per week. thats over 400,000L per year.

lately, chippies ect want more and more money for their oil,and there is a bit of a price war going on at the moment. people are offering over 30ppl which is unsustainable in the current market. what will happen is that the large companies (agri, 15 refineries) will stamp out the competition then push the price of oil through the roof.

gonna be an interesting year this....................................

the bosch pump is the tp have or the bosch copy pumps.
its the lucus pumps that dont like veg Wink

but also i think the di engines dont like as much veg as idi engines.

iirc most 200tdi/300tdi owners that run on veg wont go over 50% veg oil.

you need to think about fuel geling, ged knows what im on about Laughing

also for the hassel i would say do what ged has said and get a waste carriers licence as more and more people are doing it so its not worth risking it without anymore Crying or Very sad

also you should keep a record of how much veg you have had, when you got it and what mileage and keep the records in the car/4x4 all the time as its down to you to prove how much veg you have used in the last 12months(not the last year, they do a rolling 12 months for your 2500l useage)
plus its only 2500l per house hold per roling 12 months Crying or Very sad

Yup. Had a solid lump of SPAM from injectors to tank.

I run 100% until we hit 0 deg then with every 20L of veg, I add £8 dino and £2 petrol

Started in less than a second this morning.

I also have an electric pump fitted that forces the oil through one of them preheaters that people say don't work.......
