if you wanted more room you should of got something bigger
the wheel base and track width will need work so bigger axels and chassis extended/landy body cut down

Why ruin a perfectly good SJ?
If you want a landy buy a landy

If you can't afford one then I doubt you'll be able to afford a project like that.
Can you weld and fabricate?
Insurance would be just as much if not more as soon as you say what you have done.
Sorry but its a pointless idea, a landy body is twice the weight, has a longer Wheelbase, is a lot wider (have you seen an SJ fitted with landy axles?)
There would be no benifits that make it worth doing and a lot of negatives.
Will the 1.3 handle the extra weight?
Will the suspension handle the weight?

I think he gets the point form the replys, but in a way i remeber a thread not long ago with all sorts of car bodys on 4x4 chassis, some ugly some cool, but its what the owners wanted, ¬ mutations the thread was or some thing.
IMO i think it could be doable, but a defender cab only with a tray back, will depend on what measurements can be got for the front wheel to sit in th arch properly, but a kitted out SJ can weight in at over 1.5 ton easyly, and if you add stronger leafs, easy done, and your 1.9TD, i dont think there is arrason you shouldnt if you want.
I once made or nearly an X-90 with ford 2.9V6 engine and G wagon axles with 4 link suspension, i wasnt put down for that idea.

So what are you going to do to make the axles wide enough?
I just measured my mates rangerover width 72" on 8" wide wheels to the outside of the tyres.
My SJ has 10" wide wheels with 12.50 tyres a large offset and measures 66" wide
+3" wheel spacers is an option but then the wheelbearings won't Last 2 minutes.
Throw some money at fitting wider axles then you might as well just have saved yourself a lot of time and hassle and brought a landy
Sorry to be so blunt but there really is no point.

Just read two threads, am I on difflock or pirate
I can see issues with both idea's but flaming to death is not the difflock way.
For the record, fitting a defender body to an sj chassis does strike me as pointless, your adding more weight for no gain in space, get in a defender 90 and you'll see what I mean, you'll essentially have a defender with poor articulation but better reliability.
If you have access to an engineering firm, better to make the zuk work properly, leave the lard rovers to people who won't learn.
The other thing is, if you buy a Landrover and don't add all the toys you WILL get stuck at p &p's, exactly where everyone else gets stuck. That's because the same wheelbase vehicles have already got stuck in the same places.
Spend time and a little cash on the zuk, it'll happily annihilate landrovers costing much more..... Get a lockright in the back, some lifted springs and shocks, armour up the body (sills, hd bumpers etc) you'll have a giant slayer.
That's why sj's are still popular.
