I have seen various homemade/semi commercials bumpers/ground anchors etc.

Have also seen various ground anchors/steeringguards/recovery points fail.

Question really is how good are your design skills and welding skills?

Next question is what is YOUR insurance company attitude to home made kit?

Brendan

Do you have to update your insurer for every modification you make? including wheel sizes and lift kits?
Confused

Its up to you if you declare your mods or not. All mine are declared to my insurance co including:

Rear work light, change of steels wheels to alloys and what size and make of tyre I am using, A bar with spots etc. Some mods they may not be bothered about but just in-case I included them on the form they sent me.

Want I don't want to happen is, if I have an accident and the car gets inspected and they discover I have added an item that they class as a modification it could render my insurance invalid.

best option is to declare every mod , down to the smallest detail and let them decide . if poss put it in writing and have them send you a copy back . that way they can`t say they didn`t recieve it . Wink

Some good points
When I ran Winches International, we designed and made a few bumpers ( still got one in the shed I think?) but we had a full set of engineering calculations done on them, then if we had a problem we could prove we had designed and made it properly

another handy tip that seems to help when insuring mooded cars
i send pics of the car (front/back/and both sides) that way if theres any probs you can prove they have seen whats been done before they accepted your money

I made this one as a bolt on for an RRC. It all depends what you want it to stand upto. We were using my car as a dead weight to test a twin motor warn winch to see if we could snap a cheap 12mm plasma. I drove mine into a gulley and burried the front end into the bank then got the warn to try winch it out. The bumper didn't come off so I was happy. I built a similar spec rear bumper and ripped the corner off the box section this weekend when my brakes failed on a trial and I fell on it.

No idea how they would look on these things from insurance / crash test point of view.

Drawings are available for the above.

it was from LRS offroad, they do a few different makes. I'm tempted to swap my steel wire for one.
