Having just visited my local Halfords,I noticed that Castrol GTX,previously sold in 5 ltr containers,is now in 4 litr containers. Is this the beginning of yet another trend to rip off the motorist?if the other manufactures follow suit, the chances are we will have to pay the same price for 4 ltrs that we are now paying for 5,plus at oil change time,it will mean buying an extra container of oil. W hat with that, and the antifreeze/summer coolant scam,it seems we are in for yet more exploitation,I would like to know just what the "coolant " element of the antifreeze is,for all we know,it could be just coloured water, what do other members think?

I used to think like that as well, 'til I realised, that when I changed the oil in my car, and needed 6.5ltrs, I wasn't wasting as much, as I was when I had to buy 2 x 5ltrs.. Very Happy

Also, most? antifreeze compounds are also summer coolants. the one and same stuff...you need antifreeze in the winte,r and summer coolant in the summer, not to provide antifreezing qualities, but providing an anti corrosive compound, to stop the ally bits of your engine from dissapearing, and the iron bits from going too rusty....same stuff.

well, when you put it like that, you may be rightBUT i would prefer to buy 5 ltrs of pure antifreeze suitetable for alloy engines rather than 2.5 ltrs of something that is an unknown substance, for years antifreeze has been available that has anti corrosive properties, and that is suitable for different types of engines,so hopefully you will understand why I am still unconvinced, however on the oil issue, you could well be right, Cheers.
