Looking to do a FULL service for my vitara.. i would love to put Difflock evo in my truck but currently i am working on a tight budget, so my question is this

is there anything suitable for my use (everyday drive, with greenlaning) that you guys would recomend for Diff/gear and transferbox that is high quality, but wont break the bank. Even if its just to tide me over for 10000miles/1year or so until i can get the Difflock stuff in there..

looking for quality still, with due care paid to price..

also am i right in assuming its 1.5ltr for the gearbox, and 1 litre for each of the diffs? with EP90 (75w90) in the transferbox/diffs and MTF in the gbox?

or would it be better, for example to buy a couple of litres of the difflock stuff, eahc month and replace it oil by oil (starting with the gearbox)

thanks in advance.

p.s. i drive a '99 vitara, manual, with 65k on the dials..

Best save your hard earned unless your vehicle is very low mileage and has been treasured up to now with liquid gold fed to it at every service..

Get down your local 'motor factors', not Halfords and buy economy stuff like Comma.
The Factor will check the book, cross reference for the suitable grade, sell you an Oil filter, Washer, Air filter etc & give you good value.
(if Greenlaning and you think you get moisture in your oil get that changed soonish, changing oil often & being able to afford to,
is to me more important than brands & high prices on older vehicles)

Or when someone confirms the grades/quantities you need.
Shopping at Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury/Lidl/Aldi/Costco type places.
Get your antifreeze & winter wash, also De-icer
& dont buy ready mix Gallons.
Much cheapness.

Just my opinion obviously.

If you gears are working fine now with the manufacturers recomended lubricants they are hardly likely to benefit from treating them to an expensive 12 year old birthday present.

I am too tight to waste money on snake oil,
its best used on crunchy Land Rover stuff where it does make rough machining glide abit better.

Not being serious there, well not fully. Wink

i find landies are much like prostitutes..

nice to look at, one on every street corner and you usually end up with more than you bargained for if you get one..

i am now going to go and get my flaming pitchfork proof suit,

Well it hasnt been changed, so i think i will get myself some regular EP for the gbox tbox and diffs...
