Hi all,
Not a 4x4, I know - however, this forum seemed the appropriate place to put such a post.
Am planning (in the next 4 years or so) to take a road trip with brother to Ukraine from Sussex via Ramsgate-Oostend, onwards to Bruges, Ghent, Brussels, Aachen, Koln then NW past Dusseldorf and Hanover, then SE past Erfurt and onwards into the Czech Republic (Prague, Hradec, Ostrava) then into Poland (through the south; Krakow etc.) and into the Ukraine via the road to Lviv.
We would then cut east towards Zhytomyr and then NE to Kiev (where we would take the Chernobyl tour package) before going south-east through less dense areas towards Crimea (inc. Simferopol, Sevastopol - perhaps -, and then NW to Odessa).
Then maybe through Moldova and Chisinau and through Romania (Bacau, Cluj-Napoca then west through Oradia and into Hungary (Szolnok, Budapest, Szekesfehervar) then into Slovenia (Graz) and subsequently Italy (Udine, Venice, Verona, Bergamo, Milan, Turin) then south into France (Nice, Antibes) and across the south coast (Aix-en-Provence, Nimes) then upwards to Carcassonne and then Montauban, Bordeaux, Angouleme, Limoges, Poitiers, Tours, Le Mans then to Saint-Malo and then the town of Cherbourg followed by a ferry to Portsmouth and up the A3/M25 back to East Grinstead.
I know this is pretty ambitious, but we have 4 years to plan it (he is currently restoring a 1970 VW Beetle which will do the journey nicely, very easy to maintain with no computerised systems etc.
Just asking, does anyone have any ideas about anywhere special en route (I know that is a pretty general statement!)? We were considering accomodation; would camping be the best option further west and cheap hotels further east? Just looking for a bit of advice. Thanks very much!

Hi
I'm an expat Aussie/Brit living in Ukraine since 2008.
I drove my modified Range Rover pick up from the UK thru Norway and into the Arctic Circle crossing into Russia at Murmansk.
I then drove Russia north to south to the Crimea.
This was a 4 month solo trip.....in winter.
Then the following winter it was onto Georgia, Turkey, Syria, to Jordan, back along the Med and Aegean Coast of Turkey to Eastern Europe, across the Tatras into Poland and then back to Ukraine.
It was a White Sea to Black Sea then Red Sea to the Blue Sea (the Med) adventure
...and now I own backpacker hostels in Odessa and Sevastopol.
I will assist you with any planning advice you require
