"theyre not called moors, its a bog and its commonage. the entire mountain is commonage"
Commonage is public is it not, so if its public ground you could meet anyone or another vehicle there right. So your vehicle should be insured, tested and taxed.
As per the law of the land (IRELAND) "anywhere you could meet another vehicle you need insurance" unless its private land and you have permission to be there.
I belong to one of the 4x4 clubs in IRELAND, and pay dearly for our club insurance to use coillte forest, and then have to jump through hoops and bend over backwards to meet the requirements of the coillte forester and the ranger from the parks and wildlife.
Then i see photo's of your vehicle on "commonage" (coillte ground) and i just better not type anymore in this sentence !!!
Just because you were lucky enough to be born beside it dose not give you the right to trespass !
If you were born beside a prison would you trespass in there?
I'm not having a go or looking to hit a nerve and don't want or need a slagging match, but hope you see it from my side. ( Good old Ireland )
=============================================
Now time for some info, wider tyres help on soft ground also running them at low pressure helps as well.
Get yourself some waffle boards there a super bit of kit.
If your going to be doing a good bit of winching you might need to upgrade the alternator for a higher amp unit. What you could do for now is to run a new heavy cable from the alternator to the battery and you can leave the old one there as it goes from the alt to the starter then to the battery. A very good battery is a must.
One last thing please please please make sure your welds are good as you will be putting a lot of strain on them when winching and the last thing you need is one to break and something flies heading for you in the drivers seat ! Seen it happen and its not funny !
Have fun and be safe.

Commonage is not public land in Ireland,it's a patch of open but private land owned and used by several ppl(farmers usually but commonage rights can be sold and are usually attached to local farm land)they are not open to anyone and you are tresspassing if you dont own rights or title to it and certainly nothing to do with Irish state forestry....glad you got unstuck Ned but your lucky it was not me with the tractor!!!you'd have had the first smart style daihatsu in Ireland

And why would u have problems with Coillte if your on commonage?Nothing to do with any club nor do i care if you have a club or not Ned-i'm a farmer with share of commonage who has to deal with or remedy damage caused by ppl who decide to do as you not to mention the risk to farmers involved if you hurt yourself or someone else and start looking for someone else to blame=£££££££££££££££££
Coillte generally(Irish forestry dept) do not own commonage, ppl who have to make a living on it do so Ned before you trek out again you should check whats what if not for your own sake then for the farmers

are you breaking the tradition of setting fire to the car once you have killed and abandoned it in the middle of nowhere then? )
..i dont see that you harmed anyone driving where you did-and yes, i think you do have rights being a local! much more fair than applying in duplicate to the united soviet states of the unelected eurocrats as to which tree you can or cannot pee behind! who's to say the swiss or whoever arent going to be building one of there leaky nuke power stations there at some point? the real crime is that the gubberment sold out to the international banking cartell! hope to see more pics of cars illegally bogged out in the future! )

the argument to me sounds a little like all those who wanted to witch hunt the kids that were looting a couple of months back...all the time getting ass raped by the inland revenue(private company!), the gubberment, the bankers and anyone else who wants to legally steal from us. i understand that you might want to preserve the right to green lane etc but you need to look at the bigger picture-because they dont want you in any type of car what-so-ever! as ned said-they just gave eminent domain to the EU which means they can use irish land to supply a product for distribution throughout the EU-not for the common good of the locals..expect for that impending chance of a position in slave labour : ) stop whinging about one guy enjoying his right to be free and start building guillotines!

jayzus. yeah i didnt actually know what commonage actually meant before i got stuck there. i do now. apparently the patch we were in is contested by various farmers and theres violence and the whole bit involved.
its completely, and i do mean completely, useless ground, so if they wanna shoot me for getting stuck in it theyre mental to start with.
however, i wont be trundling back on there again. because some of the farmers are headbangers.
as for the forests, theres vast swathes of it there, and we damage absolutely nothing when driving on it. at the end of the day its just me and my mates in one little car.
