Hi - Is the clutch on my 404 very nearly worn out?
I have adjusted the linkage so there is just clearance on the release bearing. I have removed the top bellhousing inspection cover and with a piece of wood pressed on the gearbox input shaft to stop it spinning, the clutch releases the pedal approx 1 inch from the floor.
I suppose a better test would be with the wheels on the ground to assess the release point? I can stall the engine against the clutch in 4th gear, so there is no clutch slip.
I do not propose changing the clutch immediately, but just wondered the beat method to diagnose the worn clutch.
Thanks
Will
