Check the float height (not putting too much fuel in the carbs) and are you running the original mechanical fuel pump or an electric pump?

I don't really know it's not a big leak just seems to collect on the catch plate.I think it could be coming from the float camber?
the other problem is that the mog willn't tick over so i think I need to adjust the idle screw?

The only adjustment on the car is the idle mixture setting. Should be about 1 1/2 to 2 turns out IIRC.

If the fuel is coming from the float chamber due to the chamber floading I doubt you get it to tick over correctly. One of the floats doesn't have a pin ***** hole in does it?

You could check the flatness of the mating surfaces of the float chamber - if you have access to a surface plate or use a piece of glass (they should be pretty flat). Use feeler gauges to check.

O.k I restriped the carb agian and re built it seems to have stopped leaking also adjusted the air mix screw 2 turns It now ticks over for a bit before stalling? so i'm at a bit of a loss on that one.
Also I have no power when I pull away anless I rev the nut out of it it just stalls once it's going along it's O.K but if I need to slow down for a tight turn low and behold it stalls.
Starting to Think the engines finished.
If this is the case what is the best option to replace it I have seen all these engines for sale this week Factory Recon M180 and a high comp head,An M130 out of a mog and a OM 617 I don't mind the work involved in a Re-fit Just would like to know what people have done and the results they had.
Cheers
Gary

Fuel pump is my first thoughts.

For the sake of a tenna, stick a 3 psi 12v electric pump on and completely do away with the mechanical one. Sounds like the exact problem I was having, but with 2 spare engines kicking around I managed to make 1 good fuel pump out of 3.

If you are planning on swapping out an engine for something else, well your not going for originality so world is your oyster.

On my first mog I was planning on removing the ford 6 cly diesel and putting in a 2.8 isuzu lump. I got one of my spare engines off a bloke who had just fitted a 4.2 yota lump. If you lift the cab a couple of inches there's plenty of room. There's a guy on pirate (IIRC) who's just fitted a v8... Only think to keep in mind, you really want an engine which has the exhaust on the passenger side. The ford diesel I had was on the drivers side and the throttle food got a tad warm.

If you are very lucky you'll come by an m180 from a saloon car which puts out 120bhp. Just take the head off that, swap for the head on a stock mog m180 and a 50% increase in power. Oh I just happen to have a complete m180 120bhp engine in the shed Razz

I had a similar fault with my m180 a long time ago. It would start, run and rev fine but had no power to pull away. To cut a very long story short, it turned out to be a tiny bit of dirt on one of the main jets, easily cleaned out with the air line, ran perfect after that. Might be worth checking??

mike

ps I have now gone diesel, OM617, lots of work, quite a hard engine to find in the UK, but great results.

Yep, worth trying an electtic fuel pump. With regards to conversion plates between the engine and gearbox, there are 101 different ways of doing things, and everyone has different ideas.

Look back through the old threads '404 diesel' has a few pics of my 617 conversion, 'Turnips engine conversion' is another great project using a Fiat ducato engine i think? And if you keep searching I'm sure there are some threads on a Nissan engine conversion and others.

Gary - if you are in Italy Im guessing that finding a fiat ducato / Iveco 2.5tdi motor would not be too hard? Ive fitted one in my Mog and its a beauty - see Turnips engine coversion on here? 120 bhp and all the manifolds on the right side!
Been using it today for timber extraction on very steep land!

Phil

Thats a great conversion turnip shame about the photo's,For me it's a bit to involved as I'm planning on taking a nice long 2 year trip driving down to namibia in it, (west coast) and I don't want any thing to complicated as I will need to fix it in the bush.
This is why I'm looking at ether a M180 with high comp head or The m130 I can get both of these engines with no problems and then puttin on LPG for the europe section and the south africa sectionsof the trip.
