Hi guys,
I've searched lond and hard but can't seem to find an answer! I currently have a 300tdi auto but the gearbox and transfer box have come to the end of their lives! Can I fit a 200tdi auto box onto my engine? If not, does anyone have a 300tdi auto box for sale at sensible money?
Many thanks in advance,
Jon.

i think the answer is yes. i know that the later v8 rrc all disco's, the 200 and the 300 all used the zf4hp22. and i think that solong as you leave everythin on the back of your engine alone you could even put a v8 zf' box on it solong as you change the bell housin for your tdi one. just check if the box you have runs an ecu or not because thats an issue i'v had with the v8 setup but not sur with the tdi's.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think mine has an ecu but I will check tomorrow. I thought the V8 box was a different ratio but maybe I was mis-informed.
Cheers,
Jon.

the ratio difference, if any, will be in th t/box but im fairly sure there all the same between disco and rrc, in this case anyway. early one tens ran really low ratios and defenders ran lower ratios any way.

Yes the gear shift points are different on a V8 box. This is controlled by the valve block inside the box. Not a easy thing to swap over!

If your 300tdi has EDC, you might need to change to a mechanical fuel pump.
For the EDC to work propery (if at all), you'll need the bellhousing from your existing autobox for the engine speed sensor; however, the vehicle speed sensor is located in the transfer box housing, which from your original post, is on its way out.

Cheers for all the replies. I have considered a reconditioned unit but they are a bit (a lot!) more than I wanted to spend. I know of a 200tdi unit for sale cheap hence this post but it's not looking too straight forward as mine has EDC. Any idea if I can swap bits about on the transfer box to keep the speed sensor?
Cheers,
Jon.
