just started using 2 stroke in my 300tdi and well, so far so good, is seems a lot quieter (less diesel knock) and altho i have only done 40miles, my guage doesent seem to be falling as fast as it usualy does and it doesent bellow any smoke when cold and it used to for a couple of muinutes.

yes i used the red stuff, i mixed 100ml in a 20 litre jerry can before putting in my tank and the fuel wasnt red Laughing

I was in Tesco's last week and I happened upon their Car Care aisle.
Open-minded about two stroke oil, I decided to buy a litre.
Put 200ml when I fuelled up, was impressed how quiet the engine was after just a few minutes running.

Still smoked a bit when accelerating hard, though as each day has passed it smokes less and less. This morning I pulled into a layby, let it idle for 30 seconds and revved the engine hard for a second, a la MOT. Hardly any smoke - compared to it's MOT in March when it struggled to pass the emissions and lots of smoke appeared.

And the engine runs much cooler than before; whereas the needle would sit horizontal at 70mph on the local bypass, now it just creeps in the lower normal temperature range.

Still far too early to know whether the mpg has improved.

never found any advantage in adding two stroke to my veg oil, have tried it in the dino in my aux tank but compared to running on svo it still did not feel as smooth, atf type A is supposed to be a better stuff to clean out injectors and the system, read about it being used 50/50 dino in the filter and using the italian tune up method - rag the bowels out of it in each gear untill the smoke clears

Engine oil 'in a rover V8 engine' (not in the fuel)
is good for keeping everyhing well oiled & cooled.
(in a tight engine it might take a good amount of turning over in winter with a thicker oil when cold weather)

Classic 50/20 oil is good, but you dont need to spend a fortune.
£7.50 for 5 litres of Comma oil should be fine.

If you are running LPG, this oil should stay nice & clean for a decent amount of miles.

I have been reading the thread & know what its about,
I read 'durknp's question as he wrote it.
Obviously he means can he put 2 stroke into his fuel,
but didnt ask that.

You answered seriously,
i answered less seriously.

'No dont put 2 stroke into your petrol in your petrol engined rover V8',
put oil in the engine & the motion of the pistons & design of the engine will lubricate whats required, cylinders, heads/tappets/cams, oil pump etc..

For smooth running,
service & set the engine to run smoothly.

this is one thing that puzzles me, derv is mineral yet plenty of people mix veg in with that without any problems, theres a 20 ltr drum in my shed i had forgotten from last year, about a 50/50 mix and the drums semi clear, no separation and no lumps or anything in the bottom of it begs questions terrence if your solids is something that dropped out of your veg oil over time, assuming you have wvo in the drum not svo, food for thought ??

Derv is hydrocarbons - veg oil is organic (hydrogen and carbon)

they are misable.

I'm thinking of trying a drop of 2 stroke in the 110. It's a Ford/Land Rover Puma TDCi. Anyone know of any reason why I should't

I've been reading on another forum (yes there are forums other than Difflock!) that suggest that certain types of 2S should be used in the Puma Landy - something to do with the CAT

avoid chainsaw/lawnmower types but any of the motorcycle / low ash ones should be fine as they use cats .
