It depends what you want, if you want something cheap and throw away there are plenty of cheap RC cars out there,
Personally I would want something that spare parts are available for (so It could be repaired) I also Imagine you will want something RTR (Ready To Run) there are plenty of assemble yourself kits, but they are probably to advanced for a 6 year old
Any way, I was fancying one of these for myself,

Its just in your budget, Its a good brand with plenty of readily available parts (and hop ups if you want), It comes ready to run And I'm sure it will be fun for you too, This car should be suitable for short grass, on the street and even in the house (if you don't have too many brakables!) It is only 2wd but if your driving on path ways and gardens it should be fine, There is a mini desert truck version with bigger wheels and a truck body, but unfortuantly I can't find any on ebay at the moment,
here is an official video of the buggy on youtube

The only thing is it may be a bit to quick for your 6 year old, although I'm sure the more he used it the better he would get! after all fixing them is part of the fun

How hard and fast is the 100 quid rule?
For an extra 59 quid you could get one of these bad boys!
I've been very tempted to get one for a while now and make a little scale jeep wrangler out of it.

Pleanty of hop ups as well, not knocking Tramp's suggestion as those things are amazing fun, but might be a bit on the quick side for a younger driver though?
It depends on where you like to go, nice big open areas that buggy will be excellent, the mini crawler can be used for hours of fun in the back garden with a few rocks thrown down.
Good luck getting sorted out whatever you end up with!

Its okay, I have one of these Mini rock crawlers anyway Its great fun but it can be slow, and with the locked diff's the turning circle can be quite large if your running it in the house. When I was little I can remember having a cheap buggy called a 'turbo hopper', I can remember banging it round outside my house on the street, jumping down curbs etc it was great until it had too many knocks and broke, and thats why I suggested a buggy!
The Mini rock crawler is a good bit of kit but it's a bit specialised, allthough of course if you want to get into crawling its a great entry level car, When I bought mine, I got it second hand (from an RC forum's classifieds) and for just under £100, the only thing is its sooo slow! Half the fun of buggy's is that you can make a jump with a skateboard and a piece of wood in your garden, unfortunatly with the rockcrawler it would get to the end and climb down rather than having any air time!
