|

i put my RRC 3.9 v8 on the road last week and i've always filled up at 1 of 2 places depending on where i'm going, my local point has always been a couple of pence dearer i.e last week it was 66.9ppl.
yesterday i was passing the slightly cheaper place so i thought i'd call there and fill up and i was stunned to see there price had gone up from 58.9ppl to 71.9ppl, i thought it may have been a misprint so i had a drive to one further away and theres was at 72.9ppl.
has anyone else seen this sort of increase and if you havent i recommend you go fill your tanks before you do.
chris
and to the mods, i know i've put this in the LPG forum too but i feel its important info, anything to help save money

;They; have you by the short & curly's.
You are limited where you can go, & they know that.
Look for a Trade card place if you can buy on account,
not always cheap.
An Asda Credit card gives 1 pence a litre off when buying at Asda,& there or Morrisons LPG is usually the cheapest.
I used LPG for years & opted out this year when it got to 55 pence a litre.
From Filling stations.
My idea was Going over to diesel only
& no vehicle that does less than 60 mpg will be used by me again (privately.)
There is a problem tho.
plenty of vehicles available just now/used.
New ones are Euro 5 from January & will have the Latest Particulate filter ,
supercharged/turbo charged, intercooled smaller engines with more BHP & stop start & all the rubbish.
Servicing & replacement parts will be a nightmare.
& the diesel price is going up faster than modern vehicles are becomeing more economical.
Think i am on the look out for a newer more efficiant LPG vehicle because it will pronbably still be the way to go.
its working out the economics for the LPG supplier for your area & having big enough tanks not to buy were its expensive, like in the south of the UK.

I know someone who runs his Range Rover on LPG. He has his own tank at home, must be cheaper than buying it from a filling station?

Lots of homes or buisness's have LPG tanks at their buildings for domestic & commercial uses.
Farms with grain dryers etc.
Doesnt mean you can legally fill your road vehicle up with it, or even own the connector to fill your vehicle up with it.
Best ask your mate his circumstances before telling too many people about it.
HRMC are getting a little worked up on the matter.
They would like to have 'markers' & they cant.
They are looking very closely now at suppliers & end users tho.

I see.
We pay road tax and fuel tax, are they "used" for the same thing, or are the 2 taxes for different reasons?

if you do the research youll find your actually paying a tax on the tax on fuel, in effect double taxation, which is illegal under european law, the brittish govermenthas been pulled up about this several times, but just ignore it, i mean what are the easilly foolable british motorists going to do about it......!

The only thing we can do about it is ALL STOP BUYING FUEL, but it won't happen & the coalition know it, we just keep bending over & getting shafted.

you can buy the same fuel for road vehicles, off road vehicles and heating, all at different prices. Its a bit like red & white diesel.
The problem withh the protests where we all stop buying fuel is the week before and the week after we just buy twice as much. The garages could even shut shop for a week and save the wages!

There are a number of companies that offer bulk LPG, it's perfectly legal and above board. You normally have to guarantee a minimum usage per year to get the cost of the fuelling station down but 2 or 3 users clubbing together can do it. Last time I had any info on it (about a year ago) you saved around 40% off retail prices but needed to be using around 200 litres a week as an absolute minimum.
The stations are self contained with tank, pump and stand all on a fork liftable metal pallet.
The biggest problem for most people is sighting the "station" as you're not allowed to position it within something like 2 metres of a property boundary.
It isn't legal to use domestic LPG for on road use. You need a different takeoff to a normal LPG heating system too.
Prices for LPG always go up in the winter by a few pence due to the change in the mix required to keep it working. Basically propane costs more than butane and LPG on the forecourt is a mix of the two. In winter the proportion of propane needs to be increased. In previous years it's put the winter price up by 2-3p per litre.

Yep..
Two weeks ago 58.9p, last week 62.9p, friday 66.9p.
I heard there is no duty on LPG, just VAT. However this is what I have observed. The oil companies don't price lpg on the cost of extraction/distribution. They price it to be 50% petrol which is the price point that keeps people converting. Every time petrol goes up, be it tax or oil price, lpg goes up too.

i see what your saying about the half the price of petrol and diesel but when fuel prices hit £1.35 a few years ago it didnt really effect the price of lpg.
although they could be doing it this time as everythings creaping up alot slower and they think we havent noticed

Its just all tax, same as VAT and income tax - all goes in the same pot - mainly to be paid out to scroungers

I filled up at a garage outside Taunton yesterday and noticed that the LPG was 1.679. I filled the work van up with Diesel at 1.219 though, bargin! I paid 1.279 to fill the truck up tonight, was 1.259 this morning and I didn't check it, just assumed it still would be Morrisons, Sainsburys and Esso are all 1.279 in Bridgwater now
