I have a Midland 38 that i bought about 18 months ago and has had very little use, a friend who knows allot about electrics and CB's (and quite frankly bored me shitless describing everything he knew about them) set it up for me with an SWR meter, but it very rarely shows any signal and i have only ever contacted anyone else once and they were about 500 yds away.
Is there any testing kit that can tell me if the Radio is knackered due to my initially poor set-up?
Sam

yes a swr meter usually has a power setting as well you should get 4 watts out of a legal cb radio. swr meters for cb cost about £10 from maplins or most truck stops it would be worth having , you should get 4 watts out and a reflection of under 1.5-1 is ok the closer to 1.1-1 the better easy to use /understand with it in front of you

Cheers for the advice, i have got an SWR meter, so I'll check it sometime.
As for truckers, my village is on a direct route for Tarmac western so we're by no means in short supply of them. And Forest Fencing also have a depot. very close but i never pick anything up.
Cheers for the advice, Sam

A lot of truckers use the european AM channels which you won't receive unsless you have an 80 channel multimode CB
