Hello fellow mud lovers.

Im obviously new to the forum and after a Ten year gap (offshore taking over my life) from competing in the B.O.R.D.C with my old Zuke Trialler im back in the game and have bought a very tidy Winch Challenge 90.
I will be starting a thread in 'The Garage' with lots of pics and future mods, de-mods (poly bushes) very shortly.

Anyways, im away to give her a full service. I have already purchased all genuine LR Oil/Fuel Filters, a K&N, Swivel Grease and extremely over priced OilSafe pump!

Will be ordering Evo oils (from here) for Diffs,TF box & Gbox..

Now my question is. I have run Castrol Magnatec Engine oil in all my engines since as long as its been available and sware by it. I was curious as to wether anyone has or is running Castrol Magnatec Diesel in his or hers 200tdi and what experiences have been had with it?

Engine is ex Disco with around 160k on the clock? Im open to all input and recomendations on oils, also wouldnt mind some input on best viscositys to run and ammounts for all running gear.

Thanks in advance

Dave.

If you're going to get the Evo transmission oils from the Difflcok store why not get the Titan XTR at the same time. Seems like a decent enough oil but I'm no expert!

Welcome back to things 4x4.

With an engine thats done 160,000 miles i would just use Comma diesel oil from your local motor factors.
No point making money working in oil & spending it on oil when there will be no advantage.

If you have a total service history for it with reciepts for the oil used previously
& its been treated like a treasured thing, then put in what its always had.

Would be a waste of a few pounds tho IMO.

I would give the K&N filter a miss if its for performance reasons on a 200tdi,
Just a good filter that will not disintegrate at some moisture & a totally sealed low down around the airbox snorkle with a secondary filter will do.
(i take it that already fitted, what air filters in now?)

have fun with it.

I use the Difflock fully synthetic oils throughout (engine, gearbox, transfer box, front and rear axles) and can recommend them as excellent oils. They make a big improvement in running, performance and economy.

Magnatec strikes me as being marketing hype over substance. I use MHT oil in the Alldays (Medium To Heavy) designed for engien that do not run very often and it clings to the side just like Magnatec but is/ the price.

Buy cheap if the engine is old or a good price quality oil (Fuchs XTR from Differs is ideal) if it is a good one. Try not to be distracted by the shiny gadgety types

I use semi-synthetic diesel oil from COSTCO, around £30 for 5 gallons. cheap enough to change the oil regularly if it needs it or not.

Hi Ivor! It's me David Ewen, Graham Ewen's son. Thanks for the offer and thank you everyone else for your various inputs.

I ended up ordering 8 litre's of Castrol Magnatac Diesel 10W40 Semi Sythentic Engine Oil, 3 Litres of EVO 1 for the Gearbox and 6 litres of EVO 2 for the Differentials and Transfer Box, Genuine Land Rover Oil & Fuel Filters and a Green Cotton Air Filter... Just need to get home and get servicing now Very Happy

David
