my other half's old 2.5n/a in her 110 blew up quite nicely the other day i have sourced an old 2.5td with a dodgy turbo, would it be ok to run it with out the turbo? i have a new (recon) 2.5 n/a head if i would need to fit that?

I may be wrong but i think it would be much lower compression than the normal N/A so would work, but would all so suck....alot!

I thought it was the same, bar having hardened pistons to cope with extra heat/pressure.
Try it - if it sucks get a new turbo - recons can be got fairly cheap in the grand scheme.

If that won't work, I was under the impression that the old 2.5td's were quite unreliable if not scrupulously maintained, so a second hand one of unknown providence might be a bad plan?
The 2.25 and 2.5 petrols are tough old beasts, the engine mounts are the same, and only a bit of wiring is necessary - you're pulling out the engine as it is! Don't know if a Tdi will fit without much hassle?

What makes you think that the turbo is dodgy? Most often it is just a hole in the boost diaphram.
Alternatively I have a 2.5TD turbo on the shelf here......all it needs is a new boost diaphram for the same reason as above
PM me of your interested.
