At the moment I am trying to sort out insuring a 404 Unimog. The 404 I am considering is not classed as an agricultural vehicle and is a ex military troupe carrier.
I wondered if anyone could tell me what they are classed as. All I know is that since it was built in 1965 its taxation class is ‘historic vehicle’
Since its mass gross weight it’s over 3500kg it’s not classed as a light goods vehicle.
Basically I just wondered what the v5 of a 404 says on it.
I am going to try the NFU; if anyone has a policy with them would it be possible for you to tell me what ‘type’ of policy it is (4x4, Light goods, Vintage tractor)
The companies I’ve tried so far seem to raise eyebrows when I say the word ‘Unimog’ what’s the best way to describe what it is?
Many Thanks

I'd go down the route of classic military with the likes of Footman James perhaps.

Landy,
Mine is a 1956 404 ......sort of!! And is insured with NFU Mutual for less than £60 a year. The wording on the docs is "Vintage Commercial Vehicle"
The cover is for "any person who is driving with the policy holders permission"
Cover is Social domestic and pleasure inc use for vintage club events, road runs and running days etc etc.
So in short......its good and cheap but you would be pushing your luck if you were hauling a load on the road!

I checked the load thing. I can carry a load but the load isn't insured just the vehicle. Muxch like applies to personal belongings in a soft top. I can't use it for commuting either.
