hi all, first post here, i've a 316 sprinter 4x4, the diff lock actuator has stopped working. I have tried vacuum bleeding it but no brake fluid can be drawn even with a fairly high vacuum. It's quite a complicated system and i've no manual.
someone mentioned it's similar to the g-wagon difflock,
any ideas anyone?
cheers
carl

I bought a merc WIS manual on cd and it covers not exactly the 316 sprinter but components that deal with the diff lock.
So armed with this i'm confident to pull it off and see what's wrong!

well i got the master cylinder for the diff lock off, it is a sealed unit but i got it appart, it was caked with a brown sludge like varnish material, lots of it!
i can only think the fluid supply pipe from the main master cylinder reacted over time with brake fluid and particles moved downwards to the diff lock actuator and bunged it up.
almost there! rebuild the slave cylinder next . . .

err no! the line linking the master cyclinder to the actuator is caked up with something, must be the same varnish like residue. 160psi air pressure did not clear it so the next plan is to connect the line to the bleed nipple of the rear brake and use hydraulic brake pressure to clear it through, nightmare hey!!

diff lock update - backflushing the blocked line worked using the rear caliper bleed nipple to pump the brake fluid. hooked it all up and the diff lock red
led came on, YES!
then after a drive i tried it again and no red light, bummer!
blead system again and still nothing replacement master cycliner i guess, i'll never track down thoes seals
i think the petrol may have beat me AND as it's a sealed unit i bet the seals are not available, so another £100
arr well . . . .
