|
|
|
Got my sammy back on the road after a slight braking issue..
The tyres have lost some pressure which has led to a more comfy ride, but more squirming.
So, not having really thought about it before I now realise I haven't got a clue what pressures to run.
Any tips?
Used mainly on road, so road pressures as well as off road settings would be nice.
Tyres are 31" Insa Sahara turbos, and SPOA.
Cheers guys,
Sam

well off road, i run 2-3 psi, could probably get away with 1-2 on the back but its not worth risking it

I would refer to the manual for road tyre pressures because if you were stopped in Ministry/Police check and they are not within 10% of the guidelines, you could be looking at points on your licence.
Off road, I air down to around 15 PSI.
JT - yours look like flotation style agriculteral tyres. I don't think going that low with MTs and no beadlocks is going to be good.

Really?
Even with vastly different tyres in terms of size, construction, tread, intended use?
Can't believe I have to go with standard 'recommended' pressures - very likely they'd be plain wrong at best and downright dangerous at worst.
I'll try them at 22-25 for road and play around til I find a good compromise, first p&p session at the beginning of October so I'd better fix my fag lighter and pack the compressor!

there 8 ply, so they just about support the zook with no pressure, but yes, it probably is a bit too low

I normally run around 20 psi on the road and between 5 and 10 psi when I'm off road! Works fine!!

I bet that's a harsh ride I used to run my old tyres a 27/28psi but it's a lot nicer at 20psi

I never drop my pressure for green laning as there isn't much point, if I'm at a pay and play site depending on the terrain I might drop them but TBH I never really do unless it's in an old quarry. If it's really muddy I don't drop them below 15 as any drop in pressure increases the risk of popping a tyre off a bead and when that happens on a muddy pay and play site it's a pain in the ass to pop the tyre off the wheel and clean all the mud out afterwards, makes quite a mess on my mates tyre machine too

So why **** did you ask if you know best?
Kitesurf (avoiding a Simon style full scale rant) Phil just wondering why people ask for advice then just ignore it.

Most of my pressure settings are on the basis of start at standard handbook pressures and work from there.Standard Sammy pressures are 20 psi front and rear, load/speed are the same, Standard Jimny (yes i know you have a sammy but the tyre size is the same it's to give you some ideas where to start) pressures are 23 psi front and rear for the same size of tyre with load speed being 26 psi front 29 psi rear which i think you will find are too high for road use.So thats a start for you.Only do any adjustments when the tyres are cold and use the same gauge and only go up in 1-2 psi steps at a time.Off road i would not go any lower than 15 psi but thats me.
But looking at your posts you have worked it out for yourself.
But i hope what i have written will help.

I run mine at around 22-25...
but if I'm going on a long motorway journey I normally pump them up to 28-30
You do get slightly more MPG, but it's quite uncomfortable if you forget to put them down again... and I think the higher pressure leads to more breakages as the tyres absord less of the bumps!
