Hello folks, I am looking at getting a Suzuki Jimny 1.5 diesel as my every day car. I live in Sweden and need a good affordable 4x4. I have owned a 1.3 jimny but never a diesel. So my q's is , does anybody on this forum have one? If so I would love to hear your views of the diesel jimny. Thanks folks for taking the trouble to read my post and any replies will be greatly appreciated. Very Happy

I don't think they are available in the UK, unless they have been privately imported from Japan, which is a shame. I know they are an option in France and Spain.

The diesel SJ was never an option in the UK either. Crying or Very sad

Thanks for the replies, appreciated. Yes they make one and there are plenty for sale in germany. Here is a link to just one of many. Note the intake on the bonnet. That is standard on diesels.

Couple of guys on the Jimny forums have them, both in Poland I think.
Quite a few people have driven them as hire cars in Spain.

It is a Renault engine: Clio I think.

Consensus is they go alright, and actually do as many mpg as you originally expected the Jimny to Confused About 55.

Watch out for which Jimny DDis you are getting,
they come in 65 bhp & 86 bhp around 2005.

The ones i have seen in Ireland that came from Germany or Holland are 86 bhp but earlier than 2005 & have good torque.
Formula 4x4 & others do tuing chips for them,
expensive but necessary i believe even on the 86bhp one if being used as a road car.

I am told that in standard form they dont do 40 mpg for road use.

if its the same 1.5dci engine that is in my girlfriends clio its a cracking little engine, in a clio they come in 65,85 and 100 bhp models witch im sure is all down to mapping dont hold me to it. but we bought her clio, its a 65bhp with 127,000 on the clock and still pulls very well, and in the clio it get around 55-60 mpg on average driving carefully.

can imagine an 85 in a jimny would be quite useable if it was to be a daily drive

So, they don't have the diesel option in Japan after all. Embarassed

Er, it's worse than I thought:

Year / Month 1999
Odometer 79,000 km
Displacement 660 cc
Steering Right
Transmission Automatic
Fuel Gasoline/Petrol
Model code
GF-JB23W

I guess I should have checked here first. I have found a gem! Laughing http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan%20car/suzuki/jimny/5070998/

€3.576 for a rusty Sammy with a 660cc engine.

Most of the SJ/Jimnys in Japan are 660cc turbo intercooled.
Apparently they are more economical when cruising, and the turbo gives them almost as much power as a 1300 Samurai.

It's to fit in with all of the stupid keicar legislation that they used to have.
Basically cars with engines over a certain size or a footprint over a certain size were not allowed!!!

I'd quite like to get one, because some come with coils, most are in really good condition, after 1990ish they all have the 660 turbo (earlier models have 550 na, 550 turbo, or 660), AND they are right hand drive Very Happy

IIRC the engine is the same as the one found in a Suzuki Cappuccino... and I remember hearing somewhere (I think from my mates dad when he used to run a Suzuki garage nearby) that they can be bought brand new for a few of hundred quid.

There's some more info in the following youtube videos, which I really enjoyed watching, especially the music Wink
