conveyor belt arches

hello every one does any one know were i can get hold of some conveyor belt to make arches out of been to a thew avents and seen people with it on there cars many thanks

got a set of 4 plastic arch strips which you buy off ebay and pop rivet to the edge of arches
brand new still wrapped

thanks m8 but not for me i bought a set of wrangler arches got them but i dont like the look of them so didnt fit them waste of money thanks any way

i used a lorry cab wheel arch (huge black thing raps around double wheels)

cut it up and bolted on the inside of exsisting wheel arches.


my friend used them plastic strips you get in huge 'walk-in freezers' at superstores. far more flexible.

one of my mates got his conveyor belts from a scrap yard that had some old farm machinery there if not i seen alot of people using lorry/transit inner wheel archs cut down to size and rivoted on

somone on here said about using Anti roof felt drooping into the gutter thingys from a roofing suppliers.

I got some myself and did mine too, it worked out at about 20 including some self tapping screws. Its easy to cut with tin snips or a stanley knife and they are quite flexible too.

You might want to make yours a bit wider than I did though....................

lol very good, well we had a look under the car the other day the chap i got it of didnt look after it for some reason some of the chassis supports have been cut away so that will need welding back also today the engine went ive spent a load on the car and im not benefiting the shell is so rotten it wont pass its next mot its going to cost me a fortune need a new engine im best of buying a cheap sj and swapping all the good bit over

no cheap and decent SJ's about its one or the other. i bought a knacker an built it into a tidy example then started to mod. it took a lot of work to get the be a tidy motor though

I used roof felt drip edge support tray with a push on bead/trim

All four cost less than £20 to do






You can buy a pack of 5 drip edge trays from Screwfix for £20

I managed to make two from each strip so thats enough for 10 arch extensions, depending how wide you want them

1300 engines go pretty cheap due to people upgrading to 1600, if you see one local to you it may be worth considering a swap and some welding.

Yes exactly those but I bought three of them from my local builders merchants for under a tenner

I then just used a straight steel edge & a Stanley knife to cut the returned lip off and then to cut it into two (1x110mmW & 1x100mmW) one for the front & one for the rear. then once fitted I used a pair of good tin snips to shape the ends and finished them off with some push on trim edge that I bought from off of ebay.



Oh & loads of #10 black jap 12.5mm self tappers

I finished my screwfix arches today thanks very much to sae70 for the info!

I have plastic arches on my samurai and they where very easy to fit by trimming the lip off the bottom of the plastic arch and mounting them sandwiched between the plastic and metal arch using standard plastic trim clips and some goo

This is brilliant, just what I was looking for.
Went down the route of trying to procure some nice thick conveyor rubber, but the supplying company was only interested in selling me a 1 meter wide by 10 Meters minimum roll for £90.... Not really what I was after ...

Anyway, I bit the bullet and bought a pack from Screwfix. The plan is to cut the 1.5 meter lengths into 3" or 3.5" strips and screw these to the inner wheel-arches of the Jimny. This should give us the extra width as in the pix above.
Not sure about the edge trim .. just another item to fall off or trap mud.

Might look into the possibility of just flashing the edge with a blowtorch to take any sharp corners off it

well post up pics when you have fitted them to your jimny because then the circle will be complete!

nothing short of rolling the edge is going to make it less sharp the plastic is only 1mm thick

looks smart matt could you tell me is the plastic the same sort of plastic used for making cold water storage tanks in lofts just that im a plumber and ive got some tanks laying about thanks

If you do want conveyor rubber, I can get some (used, but in decent nick) from work.

We've got shedloads of conveyors, and they're always being replaced as they handle food...

One thing - it's all blue, not black, and pretty heavy for what it is, so postage may be a little pricey...
