Be gentle with me i'm a virgin to this.
Can any one tell me if there is any diferances between the long wheelbase and short wheelbase axels or running gear on a G wagon.
I am trying to make a challange buggie on a budget and thought that the G wagon was a good base vehical because of its strength and locking axels.
Would i be better with a 2.8 petrol or the 3ltr deisel.
Any one with any info please pass it on and help a newbie out.

As far as I'm aware the swb and lwb W460 axles were the same. Certainly the rear axle of a lwb fitted on our swb 300gd without any problems.

I would advise against the 3.0ltr n/a diesel for a buggy. Being tough as old boots was its only redeeming feature otherwise its just a very heavy and utterly gutless. A not uncommon replacement was the turbo diesel from a sprinter van, but if you building a buggy then you may well want a lighter engine.
