|
|
|
Hi all i bought a 1999 vreg Discovery td5 3 weeks ago after driving it 130 miles home all was well untill the next day, I noticed It was really hard to start and not running 100%. I did my research and was told to replace the intank fuel pump as it was very noisy. I replaced it with a second hand unit which was a lot quiter but the same again it was still struggling to start and by this point it was starting to cut out. I again looked back on the net and was advised to check the red ecu plug as the injector rail is renowned for leaking. I checked the red plug on the ecu which was full of oil so i cleaned it and it started straight away which was a good sign. I then replaced the injector harness with a genuine landrover harness and used 3 tins of electrical cleaner to clean all the oil out.
The Discovery is still running crap. It sometimes starts first time other times you can be there 10 mins trying to get it to go. I have rechecked the ecu plugs and its clean with no sign of oil.
It seems to run for around 3 miles and then just dies and then takes about 10 mins to get it to start again then you get a few miles down the road and it will die again im getting really mad with it now lol as i just cant work it out?? Any help please guys. Thanks

Maybe worth changing fuel filter and bleeding it.
Check for splits in turbo hoses.
Any sign of leaking fuel on the floor?

Idealy it needs to be checked for any logged ECU faults, anyone close to you with a Nanocom ,rovacom , hawkey?
If there are no faults logged that explain your problem i would be looking at the injector seals

sounds like injector washers to me they are letting exahst gases back in to the fuel that will be why the fuel pump is noisey becuase there will be air in the fuel. When it cuts out if you bleed the system and it starts straight away then this would be where i would start i have come across the problem several times i even keep the washers and seals in stock
