Formula off road have shown an interest in coming to the UK again
So here's the challenge to find a sand hill large enough for them to race on - it's up to us if we want to see some of the best off road action then all we need is a big hill - do you know a hill / cliff ??
find a hill and i'm sure they will reward you with freebies
must be sand with not much stone or gravel - send me a pic's
A hill like this is what were after is there such a hill in the UK ?

I know of one but the locals would go mad about the noise
sand pits with a face like that are not common, I spend most of my days in holes in the ground!
the best site would be a china clay quarry, thinking about it there are a few fantastic looking ones, but usually the quarry floor is very very wet
what sort of sandy muddy stuff do they usually compete on? It always looks quite muddy/ claggy?

Slag heap at a mine?
As already said, quarry?
The problem with both of those I imagine, is finding a company prepared to lend you their heap. Are there any "private" companies who opperate such places that would be aglad of a few extra quid for renting out their dumping area for the weekend.

Is this the sort of stuff? There are higher cliffs/hills on the site but I don't have any pics at the moment.

They don't fancy having another go on soil/grass then. Allas I don't know of any suitable sand pits, all the sand and gravey places I've been to were shallow. Hope they do find somewhere suitable.

Imerys ltd
Par Moor Road, ST. AUSTELL PL242SQ

there is loads of pics and vids for baldhu 4x4 on web if you want more info.
good luck with finding a site bud.

Great a good responce so far - Like it's been said there's not many
( if any ) good large sand hills - most have been cut in steps - so not to leave a sheer face. waste heaps are mostly small and are no good they need to have room for at least 6 sections a day per day - 2 Day event
thanks for the pic's . but i would say that looks to hard under foot , it needs to be loose like sand, the rule is if you can't walk up it then that's about right but if the side your on about is loose then more pic's mate please
China clay pits sounds interesting ? not sure i've seen these - but a little muddy is okay as long the hill is dry and loose - got any pics for me ?
The cars are less noisy now so the sound for the locals will be much better - tell me where and even better a pic.
No to running on GRASS again Swindon was okay but far far away from the show they would put on in the right sand pit.
Come on you lot there must be one somewhere ?? thanks for your help

the Imerys china clay mines arent a site, they are just disused slag heaps, didnt know if it would be worth a call to find out if they would allow a big 4x4 event, worth a thought as you were looking for old mines.
ive never heard of any 4x4s using the heaps but you can but ask.

I don't know if you will get far cold calling Imerys, I have a contact in silbelco (who also have a few china clay quarries and sand pits) who is a bit of a 4x4 fan so I will email him but the biggest snag is most sites are a 24/7 operation.
I've also asked all my blokes to have a think about suitable sites
private quarries are getting few and far between but always worth hunting down

Thanks all so far
NRG97 that place in your photo's has to many rocks and trees but great trials site
Thanks for the 2 quarry pics that first one looks about right - is that just the waste from what they make ? is it a solid lump or a fine type sand,
i suppose if it's clay it may go hard ?? and snotty when wet ?
the second is stepped and no good for them
Keep them coming there must be one somewhere
And cornish redneck - no not phoned them yet thought i'd wait to see the pics first -
