Cheap and cheerful, will stall easy and is not massively strong if it's all you can afford and you need it for light use go for it but if you want a winch to reliy on you would be better off getting a second hand decent one and give it a service and it will last you better.

that looks like a superwinch copy. the internals may well be of lesser quality, its probably made in the same factory as the superwinch but not quite the grade to be a superwinch Laughing if that makes sence

there are some second hand bargains to be had on ebay, i got a 12000lb superwinch for £40

no wire and gearbox was full of mud but i have rebuilt the box an im just waiting for my electrical engineer mate who works offshore to "get" me a new motor bearing and some other new bits to recon the motor.

however if you have no patience and you can only afort the one you have listed then go for it, but be prepered to have to strip and grease it after every offroad trip and you may want to upgrade the contactors to allbright ones to make sure its reliable and works when you most need it.

Dont be tempted to buy some of the cheaper winch models available on ebay, there is a reason they are cheap and they will only let you down!

Yep includes this one

Why not Albright solenoids??

In response to requests by many of our commercial recovery users, we have shortened the cable length to 24m.

Short cable length and aimed at the recovery market rather then 4x4 market

72" Leads. Are they long enough to reach battery box properly?

What is construction of steel cable FC?? 7 x 19? or what?

What is line speed under load???

Well it looks to be good vaue, well very good value.
The important bit is read the last part on warrenty, if they are rubbish they tend not to give 12 months.
I would give it a go but pay by credit card then if he folds or wont honour the warrenty you can claim from the credit card.

There's another winch claiming great things cheaply on http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12000lbs-ELECTRIC-RECOVER...2b#ht_6630wt_1078
anyone tried this? Probably the same story as the first one on this thread but thought I'd ask.

Thats the same one that I have and I can't fault it.

I wouldn't do a winch challenge with it, but I use it as a recovery winch at my club trials and it hasn't failed me. This includes one particular section where I winched 22 competitors out of one hole including two that were totally dead!

Yes it is relatively slow and relatively noisy, but it does what I need it to do.

Is the Superwinch LP10000 as seen here
http://www.discount-tools-uk.co.uk/product/4650...-winch-10,000-lb-(4536-kg)
good for 4x4 use? If I'm going to the expense of getting a pukka superwinch then I need to know what's good and what's bad. Does this have the right features? Whats the difference between a Hawse fairlead and roller one? Why do people change the wire rope for plasma string? what else should I know?
Thanks

If i were you i would go with a Goodwinch if your still looking to be on a budget, there pretty cheap but very good quality winches, im going to be running one on the back of my challenge truck.

A hawse is a solid block of either Stainless steel, steel, alloy (plasma only) or UHTPE (something like that, again only for plasma)

The advantages of plasma is that its lighter than steel, safer in that if it snaps, it just falls to the ground, and its better to handel, the theres no sharp strands of wire to cut you, although it can hold sharp stones so still be careful!

I had one of them. It was an ok winch but PAINFULLY SLOW

You'll be better off saving your pennies and going for a Tmax, Superwinch or Warn eiether new or second hand.

A Goodwinch is slow? Its one of if not THE fastest low level winch available!
