Unimog 416 six cylinder 5.7 litre diesel.

Runs perfectly, but when left for 2 days without starting requires priming of the fuel system before starting/running.

Any help on this issue please?

Air leak in the fuel system.
Check that the fuel tank cap is not creating a vacuum (ie not breathing)
Have you got the older style primer pump that you have to unscrew to operate or the newer plastic ones? The older type are prone for letting air in.Check all hoses for cracking around tha banjos and that all banjos/copper unions are tight.

Hi

As above, but more. You are suffering fuel run back caused by air entering the fuel system. The fact that it starts when primed up would indicate that your problem is in the fuel return system. the favourite place for this to happen on the 300 series engine (Merc OM 352/353 engines is the fuel leakoff plastic pipe from the rear of the head rubs through against what ever its cable tied too. Won't fuel out (yet) but will let air in once the engine has stopped, thus allowing the fuel to run back to the tank.

Been there had that, took a while to find.

Regards
