Thinkng about fitting a fridge (waeco/Engel) between the front seats in the 90 for the roadtrips. Some nice bits of kit out there but how much heat do they chuck out as it already gets a bit warm in the cab in high summer!

Many thanks in advance.

i found an old peltier pop can fridge i think i got for christmas about 10 years ago, it was rubbish so i bought a 150W 12v peltier off ebay and modified it to plug into cigarete lighter, the fridge is okay for camping trips keeps a few packs of bacon and a small plastic bottle of milk almost freezing but it kicks out loads of heat at the back, iv been thinking about cutting a hole in the pannel in the midle of the seats and sticking the heat sink outside.

i dont know anything about real fridges though.

Electric plug in coolboxes tend to be heavy on current and can flatten a battery very quickly as they have a large current draw and tend not to be efficient!

There are four major fridge/freezer companies. National Luna, Waeco, Engel and ARB. National Luna are S African and I have no experience of it, the other 3 are Australian made. In Australia the Waeco does not have quite as good a reputation in Oz as Engel/ARB but is slightly cheaper.

The 40 litre litre capacity Engel is about the same price as the 47 litre ARB which is a fraction longer. The controls on the Engel are at the back of the Engel and are a bit awkward for the vertically challenged dependent on where it is sited. The lid on the Engel has a tendency to slide off when opened due to the pin type hinge. The ARB have controls at the front and better hinges in my opinion.

Whichever fridge you go for it is worth getting the extra insulation jacket as it cuts down on power consumption.

Might be a case of granmas and eggs but ensure it is powered off your second battery and can not drain your main battery.

HTH

Brendan

After a few tried and tested options;

the engel I have now is very nice, £££ but worth it.

Are you 100% certain, i think waeco is German. I have used two waecos for years and they have never ever gave any bother so would recommend them.
