Hello everyone, this is a non suzuki related question it's a Volvo question. I am a bit unsure of where to put it so if it needs to be moved please do.

I haven't ran my Volvo for over 2 weeks during the cold weather and snow. So i started it up this morning and it took a bit to get going. So i did but it was running fine on tick over. But if i was any where between 1,200-2000 rpm it would run really lumpy, but above this it was fine.

So i stopped and turned the key off. I tried to start it again and it would not start. I did this for about 20 minutes.

After which i tried to start it again and it just got going but the problem had gone away completely.

My question is, due to the cold weather and no running could there be water within the system that was still frozen which cause the fuel issue?

Cheers
Andy

most non related car questions go in the coffee break section. but dont worry admin will most likely move it.

as for your problem, it could be water in the system, most fuel filters have a drain on the bottom of them to let water out, no harm in trying, it may have also been some crud in the filter, a change of filter is cheap enough.

my sisters ford had this same fault and it turned out to be a split in her air intake hose that was causing the air flow sensor to under read the air geting into the engine.

If it was ice in the fuel system which I found out can happen to Volvos this winter it wouldn't run above the 2000RPM like you said it did. You looked in the sedimenter in front of the engine for water?

Because the problem went away it means you have a GREMLIN in the system. It'll come back when you least expect it!

Removal of said gremlin could be by finding it in the ignition. I'm inclined to dissagree with the condensor but it could be. Look for sparks at the points if it is. It's cheap and easy to fix too. Try the coil too and see if it's getting hot. It's funny it runs flat out but not at the lower RPMs. Do you have gear oil in the dashpots maybe so needed lots of vaccuum to lift the piston? Worse when cold. Should be thin oil. Hydraulic, ATF Dexron etc.
If it played up once, it'll play up again. Split diaphragm would give a mid range flat spot too until it tears then runs on one carb. Next time it does it pull the top clips off the airbox and stick a finger in the carb and see if you can feel the piston lifting normaly or not.
Keep us posted.

Hi there it's a 1996 850 2.5 with 267,000on the clock. I believe it's injected K-JET (I Think)

I've checked the volts, battery was 12.6, check under load 13-15.

Also check the coil when in IG pos 2 was 12 volts, got spark, and could even here the fuel pump prime as well.

However went out today and it just won't start at all, it just cranked over until the battery died - brilliant.

I checked all the hoses and all are in really good condition. there is also no warning light on the dash at all.

Could i ask what the dash ports are?

Cheers
Andy

Ah, there's yer problem....erm, I thought it was a Volvo TGB Embarassed
You don't have dashpots, they were in ye olde fashioned things with carbs.

I know nothing about your particular car but it sounds like a fuel problem as you thought. Can you unscrew the feed pipe to the injector rail and make sure there's good pressure there? If so, is there a cold start injector you can pull out the manifold to see if there's fuel there? Next off is checking the injectors themselves are firing.
You could write a book at this point but see how it goes with that so far.
Cheers,
jamie.
