I thought yota axels would be wider or the same. I think ppl normally use cruiser ones but if you can fab then technically you can make any fit.

hi, hilux axles are the normal choice as they are leaf sprung and fairly easy to get hold of, the only problem with hilux axles are the rear has a central diff unlike suzukis or landr***rs which are off set to the drivers side meanin the prop shaft will run at an angle and if used on the road can cause vibration... assuming that you are keepings suzuki transmission?
the best solution is to use lj70 landcruiser axles which have the correct diff off set and still have the strong 8 inch diffs, the front is a high pinion diff and the rear has a L.S.D as a standard uk fitment (normally got a red and white sticker on them saying l.s.d oil only) altho this will probably need reshimming before it will be any good. oh and these axles also have coil spring suspension so if your planning an upgrade it could be a good time...
hope this helps
ash

how much what they made from cromo?
And you still have to supply and fit your own knucles and internals.
There must only be £100 of steel in them max

I bought a PAIR of LJ70 axles from Rob at the Offroad Armory for £600. They come complete with everything you will need to fit them apart from props. These are the axles that Rob uses on his massive Samurai and the buggy he is building. According to Milner 4X4 the LJ70 axles are identical to the Mk3 hilux axles.
Hope this helps.

hi. not sure on the props to be honest as the jimny im building with lj70 axles will be running the 2.4td engine and box from the landcruiser too... but the lj70 props will bolt to my old jimny axles which i think is the same bolt pattern as later samurais.... but i would imagine you would want to play with the wheel base too (to create room for bigger tyres) so you may need custom props or find a 'mix and match' to get what ya want...
those ORA axles sound a bit steep without internals obviously there is a lot of development in making them but still, but to be honest in a suzuki build i cant see why you would need anything heavier duty than standard toyota axles because a suzuki is so light
the jimny when it gets finished (if ever) will be about if not less than the weight of the standard cruiser even with the rollcage...

how much i can get 80 series axles with lockers for that, props are easy just make them using original sj props with the end cut off and weld the short end of a hilux (sleeved) on the other end. i didnt balance mine there was no need, no vibration

"the jimny im building with lj70 axles will be running the 2.4td engine and box from the landcruiser too..."
Ash, make sure the engine you are going to fit has had the head changed as they were faulty and were known to crack!!! The bottom end of the engine, the 'box and the rest of the running gear is solid and as long as you service them they should last forever.
You can get a complete head from Milners for about £470ish plus vat. I have just had to change the head on my Surf (same engine) I didn't use Milners head though, I had one built by a local engineers and it is a work of art, it is built to take up to 25 psi boost safely (standard 2.4 runs at 6 psi) it cost me £725 plus vat but it is actually good value as it has a bespoke cam (same profile but machined from one piece of metal and heat treated for strength), hardened valves and valve seats, uprated valve springs and an ARP bolt set to hold it altogether.
I also used ARP head bolts to hold the head on (I would recommend ARP products to everyone, if they are good enough to hold an F1 engine together at 20,000 rpm, then they can cope with a lumbering diesel!).
If you do need to change head, that is the time to get it tricked up a bit which I would highly recommend if money is not to big of a problem.
My turbo was also rebuilt with a few cheeky extra's and now spikes at 13 psi and holds steady at 10 psi and is on positive boost by 1500 rpm, the difference at the bottom and middle of the rev range is amazing.
Carnut
As for the price of the axles, I would buy a complete Lj or hi-lux whichever you settle on using the axles from (Lj is better as mentioned before because of offset diff), strip what you need and sell the rest as you might end up with the axles for free!!! if not free, certainly less than the numbers that have been quoted on this thread already!
Sorry to invade the zook section with my ramblings but if I didn't have my Surf I would have a zook!!!
Anyway, hope this helps
Cheers, John

The axles we are developing are not aimed at the average suzuki owner/builder... they are designed to go with the rear engined Challenge/XTC chassis that we also have in development... Which requires custom off set diffs…
So yes they would seem very over priced and not viable for the every day Suzuki owner…
We are not yet sure of what price they will come out at when they go in to full production… which is a long way off yet…
Rob

I paid £200 for my hilux axles for the Vit, although im getting rid of the rear one as i need two fornt axles instead now, so that will knock the price up slightly.
