Hi, not sure where else to post this but would be interested in pics of the towbars fitted to ford rangers. I have a 2009 3.0 wildtrak with the reversing sensors built into the rear bar.
I'm after one that looks fairly neat and tucks up out of sight and would be interested in seeing what makes other people have fitted.
Also, has anyone else used the car specific wiring kits? Are they just plug and play? I don't like using scotchlocks and want to find a better solution.
Has anyone had any experience of the towbar giving a false indication of something behind the car when reversing?
Thanks in anticipation,
Graham.

There isnt much choice in towbars to suit your type of bumper,
you need to buy whats available.
Its really Towsure cheapo,
Witter bit more expensive,
or the Ford rip off priced one.
Or anything else you can find.
I like a towbar thats for 3 tonne to look like a tow bar.
Scotch locks sank with the titanic hopefully.
You flash the card & buy the wiring kit this is the second decade of the 21st century. About £43.

Thanks George,
That one looks pretty tidy. Have come across some in the past for my jeep wrangler that looked more like an 5 piece RSJ bolted to the back end, all with oversize holes so it "moved" under load, no matter how tight you did the bolts.
As for cost, I'm happy to pay for the right thing, (within reason) but really want to avoid hacking the wiring harness so £43 sounds very reasonable if that's a plug in option.
Cheers,
Graham.

Hi Graham,
George is right - most recent towbars are now quite tidy affairs, even for commercially based vehicles.
Witter's '06 on Ranger bar is the F130, it's about £180 + vat. This is their bar info' link, you'll see the fitting instructions pdf on there:
http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/towbars/vehicle....aspx?vtid=204510
You'll also see a pdf on Witter's page for the 'plug-in' electrical kit (£70 + vat). Have a look and you'll see they're not particularly difficult to fit and you'll also notice it's made by Right Connections (see below).
PCT's '06 on bar is about £170 + vat. This is the link to their fitting instructions:
http://www.pct.eu.com/automotive/Fitting%20Inst...ns/pdf/FD4321.pdf
They do their own 'plug-in' kit for about £73.00 + vat.
As you can see, both bars are 'much of a muchness' and not hugely disimilar.
However, the best 'plug-in' kits I've used are made by Right Connections. They make most of the OE kits for all the big towbar manufacturers anyway.
Their part number, for an '06 on Ranger standard 12N kit, is 19500514RC. You'll need to give them a shout to confirm that it'll definitely fit yours and what their price is, though I'm unsure if they supply the public directly.
Right Connections are in Telford - 01952 608750. Great people and really helpful.
All the best.

Graham - meant to say, the above are for 4WD Rangers, not 2WD.

Much cheapness if the correct one is available,
96 onward facelift.

Both,
thanks for the info. Really useful to get your views on what are the best products. I'm capable of fitting one, including electrics so no issues there.
Like you say, the actual towbars are very similar and i think i'll take your advice on the wiring harness. If the drawings are to scale, the witter bar looks like it would be fairly well hidden behind the rear bumper, with only the flange plate extending below.
Thanks again for your help.
Kind regards,
Graham.

mine was fitted by a mobile fitter on behalf of ford, i'm sure he charged them £150. Never looked to see what make it is but it looks like the witter etc above. Brink are another big manufacturer.
No problems with false alarm on the reverse sensors, only time this happens is if the tailgate is down. Don't know if they've changed the sensors since i bought mine but don't trust them, sometimes they just don't come on
Mine has the 2 poistions which is handy as i sometimes tow with the pin.
