from what i gather option 1 is good if you have a low ration transfer case as it stops the ali case from grenading itself as well as batter protection and option 2 just stops you smashing it on rocks

Option 1.
It picks up more mounting points on the case, meaning it dosnt put all the force through the flimsy ornigonal mounts, it spreads the load more evenly across the case.

Option 1 will also hold onto less mud. I typical UK P&P conditions I would expect option 2 to need removing after every event. In drier and rocker terrain I would be more inclined towards option 2.

rockwatt is building 1 for me at the mo (with blt in hand brake).........
that pattern looks ok..... i cant see any measurements for the holes
