I run a set of Greenway Macho tyres (235x85xR16) on a set of Range Range Rover County steel wheels with inner tubes. Although they perform very well on and off road, I find that I regularly get punctures, during both onroad and offroad adventures. I contacted my tyre supplier down south who advised me that apart from ensuring the inside of the tyre is clean and free from muck which can cause abrasion and punctures, there is little i can do. Does anyone have any further suggestions? i.e. do i have a problem with tyre pressure (28 PSI), tyre/wheel combination or wrong inner tube choice?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome to Difflock.

I can't specifically help with your particular set-up, but can describe a previous problem. ...
Road car, with tubed tyres would keep getting punctures every 5000 miles or so. I was met with a shrug from the local 'quickfit' and told something along the lines of "tubes always puncture more than tubeless". However, eventually I decided to replace the tyres as well as the tubes and then I had a chance to inspect the inside of the tyre. After some searching and matching up where the tube puncture was I found a small split on the inside of the tyre, there was nothing on the outside!
I guess what was happening was that the normal movement of the tyre meant that the split would open and close by a tiny amount each revolution and this would, over a period of time, "eat" the inner tube.

Your inner tube needs to be marked 235/85-16,(750-16 tubes will be ok to use but don't go any smaller than that). Are the wheels rust free? they have a tendency to go rusty around the valve hole and on the bead area(where the tyres sit) which then drops into the tyre causing punctures. If the tyres have any labels stuck inside them they want removing as well as they can cause punctures. If the tubes are cheap to buy then perhaps spending more money on better quality tubes will help matters as well. For instance Michelin make a tube that covers both 750-16 and 235/85-16.The tube code for that size tube is 16J15.When it happens again why not see if more pressure in the tyre helps to cure the problem (perhaps going up to say 32 psi).

i ran a tubed tyre with the 3 others tubeless last tuesday, they were clean rims and brand new tyres. the tubed tyre lasted about 40miles and was flat by the time i got offroad. very annoying. the rest were fine. when i had the tube removed, the tyre was fine.
can't you get some 'proper' wheels?
