Hello there mlr.
Power steering something I was looking at for another project. Have a look at:
http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?p=44006...highlight=#440067
and scroll down to the bottom and there are some links which might be usefull.
I'm using my volvo as a daily driver just now and have to be honest that now that I've put around 4000Km's on the clock in the last few months I probably wouldn't bother with the power steering. It's sitting at around 3.6 tons with my tools and stuff in the back and apart from tight reversing I never even notice the steering being heavy. That said, I've been living on a diet of russian trucks and a battered series three for years so things get relative.
Pics of your progress and lessons learned would be much appreciated because despite what I've said, I've not ruled it out yet.

I'd echo that. If in doubt just pump your front tyres up a bit - wearing them out quicker will be much cheaper than the £2k for proper PAS!
