hey guys
my 3.5l v8 efi rangie has an old lpg kit on
you have to start on petrol and rev it up to 1000rpm or so and then switch it over... however my v8 doesnt run at all well on petrol (barely runs on it) so i was wondering if theres a way to make it start on lpg?
ive found out that if i press the pedal to the floor and flick the switch to lpg and then turn it on and turn it over it will start but i dont know if that was a one off glitch?
also what do people reckon of the BLOS system?
thanks in advance

Poor running on Petrol can be a sign of something very wrong...

But anyway.

The LPG kit I had on my merc could do an emergency start on LPG.

Make sure switch is on LPG
Ignition on
switch the switch over to petrol and then back onto gas
Then start.

I have no problems starting from cold on LPG (twin strombergs 175CD) in Volvanimal. I get it started, set the revs at about 1500 for a minute or 2 to get a little heat into the water then off I go.

Mine runs rough and pinks badly on petrol mainly because I have the timing set at 12 or 13 deg BTDC rather than 10. I use 123ignition with a specific lpg FI map.

i like Smile, have you any more details on the conversion, i've a LR 3.5V8i with efi and lpg, thinking of sacking off the efi system and converting to propane carb Smile, which model did you use? ive had a hunt around and thinking the impco CA200 will fit my needs.

Cheers, Jon

looking interesting, can the blos carbs be used on there own??, ie with no petrol system?? i must admt i've had a good hunt around and swaying towards the impco carb as cheaper than the blos carbs, look more for your ££ and the have a flange as where the blos would require a rubber tube to meet the manafold.

would be interested though to hear how others have got on with both types before i decide which way to go, how have people found starting??, i'm currently starting my efi on gas as the fuel lines disintergrated! i currently have a omvl r90e vaporiser which i assume if fine for the carb?

ok, i had another good read, the blos mixer isn't a complete carb, it's a varioble mixer that uses vacuum to operate, and can be used along side efi, or carbs and i guess could be used with just a throttle body.

as where the impco ca200 series have a throttle body attached and can be used stand alone as a propane carb allowing me to loose everything bar the distributor which i hope to replace with megajolt in the future to make the truck water resistant Smile

so the blos system could be used with a butterfly after it (heading toward the engine)?

thats the way i read it, details are far and few between, tbh though the impco carb looks more substantual and the blos carb would require mor in the way of piping.

i think i'm pretty set on the idea of going down the impco route as i can buy a new dual su carb manifold for £46 and cut of the dual su block and weld a flat plate for fixing of the carb, i could use to smaller carbs but would increase cost and would complicate things, i intend to keep it simple Smile
