ive fitted a 200 tdi into my td 90 a couple of weeks ago but none of the dash board instruments are working the oil pressure light stays on all the time. but occasionly ******* on off when i put full beam on. The engine coolant tempature gauge dosent work at all nor does the alternator light but when i earth any of these out they work on the dash dials weird. I MUST HAVE A EARTH PROBLEM IN THE ENGINE ITSELF the engine earth strap is connected im stumped at the mo. I DONT REALLY LIKE driving it not knowing whats going on with the engine

What engine was in it to start with?

The senders on a TDi arent compatable with TD or N/A gauges....

Either change the gauges or the senders...

hi mate
if the oil light is staying on it would seem that it is going to earth.
if the wire is removed from the pressure switch does the light go off ?

which engine harness have you used the one from the 90 or the 200 ?

Rubbish, they are the same, my 110 was a TD & has a 200Tdi Defender spec engine in it still using the original TD gauges.

wire colour codes are the same so I don't understand why your having problems, my 200tdi uses the orignial TD loom & all the gauges/warning lights work fine. recheck every connection.

oil sender sounds like it's playing up, try a new one

make sure the earth is fitted to the back of the gauges central threaded rod & is between the U clamp & little knurled nut if the earths aren't right it can cause all sorts of wierd problems.

Make sure that the bulkhead is earthed back to the chassis and that all the earth straps are there. I have engine to chassis, gearbox to chassis, gearbox direct to battery, bulkhead to chassis.

My last 90's electrics gave weird results and it all came down to dodgy earth starps.
