|
|
|
Evening lads!
Last week I bought a 4l Cherokee which came with a partially installed STARGAS lpg system(Originally installed by a lpg dealer). The previous owner had removed the tank from the trunk to make space for pushchairs Sadly, he just snipped the two copper pipes to the tank & whipped it out The rest of the kit is still in place(I have remounted the tank) & just requires the water pipes relinking and these copper pipes sorting.
My question is whether its acceptable to rejoin the copper pipes with a connector & olives or do I have to replace both the pipes from the filler to tank & tank to engine compartment?

connect it with connectors, they use "t pieces" to join up multiple tank systems and they are connected with flared ends like brake pipes so I cant see a problem doing it that way as long as it doesnt leak and you have it tested by a reputable autogas installer I cant see a problem. You will have to get it tested anyway for the insurance.

Obviously it would be better to run new full lengths rather than introduce unnecessary joints, but its not the end of the world.
Joints may be flared or olive based.
Bear in mind that any of the gear may have packed up during its long 'rest'.

Thanks lads! Rossko, You have a point about whether its still functional-only way to find out is to connect it up & see.Its not the end of the world if it dont as the vehicle is only used for laning and not for commuting

it's not the end of the world if somethings not working, you can by rebuild kit's etc for the vaporizer etc.
the site --> http://www.lpg-kits.com/ does striaght connectors, and there the only place i've found online so far that lists one way T's for multiple tanks. like said above it would be better to run new pipes but probally worth just buying a couple of connectors to check the system works first. also make sure if the tanks in the book all the piping is enclosed so any gas leaks vented out of the car
also check out this site http://www.diy-lpg.co.uk/ lot's of info for the diy installer.

Cheers for the help so far lads Gathered most of the parts I need but am a bit stumped on a ball bearing which "fell out" when removing the old 8mm pipe from the rear of the filler. Its obviously come out of the filler but how does it create a seal?Maybe something else should be in there too and I did'nt see it

You've dragged the one-way valve out of the filler. I think there should be a spring to go with the ball.
As its an italian cup style anyway, you might consider replacing with a UK bayonet style unit so you can forgo fiddling with adaptors at every fillup.
