SUMMARY: An interesting question and sometimes it is better not to ask, but maybe you should! What if there is a flood, a brush fire, a hurricane, an earthquake? What if you get lost on an off road trip or your truck brakes something critical miles from civilization?

Its expensive at $379.95 considering a lot of the gear in there can be souced individually for a lot lees and some stuff has a limited shelf life though be it a couple of years or so it will still need replacing.

That's the way with all 'kits' This one has been prepared for a specific task (off-roading in the wilderness) so has some different ingredients compared to other kits for the same company.
I've also been looking at off-road recovery 'kits' and have decided to buy all the parts individually myself instead. Kits are good as a no-brainer purchase but when you have slightly different requirements than what the manufacturer imagined then you can end up with stuff that is never used or just ineffective.

I make all sorts of first aid and emergency kits for various Companies sending people to far flung places. Every kit is different, based on cost, needs and often the individual's own medical requirements.
I've tried to come up with 'standard' kits but it is impossible. What I can do is make a replica kit in a cheaper bag/box for much less than most places.

I'll vouch for Richard's medical kits - he built one for us.
Now in my garage is my trailer which is fully kitted to go with sleeping systems, tent, potable bog, lighting systems, cooker and cooking equipment and utensils and basic dry/tinned food for 7 days. Add to that the jerry cans of fuel to give range to at least Rome (if my tanks are empty) or almost Milan (if the truck is full which it always is). Also wind up radio if I remember it.
The medical kit, recovery kit and tools/compressor is in the 90 as will be the bottled water supply which would be taken from the house stock. Battery recharging and phone recharging kit is also stowed in the front of the 90.
Why?
Coz we live in an area which has a civil emergency evacuation order (severe earthquake/volcanic eruption) permanently over its head and time for me hook up and go time is about 6 minutes. If we have to hunker down in the house to ride out the storm we have all the kit necessary to survive as the infrastructure inevitably breaks down around us.
