We've got a Landy pickup in at the mo that has been done with this http://www.line-x.co.uk/

After 5 years of farmer based abuse the load bay is totally unmarked - very tough and good looking.

I'd paint the whole car with it!

Sorry. For metal, the only effective way is to blast it totally clean, back to shiny bare metal, and spray it with a good acid etch primer.
But it really must be properly clean.
The problems with chassis' is that they can rust from the inside out. Galvanising may be the best long term way.

for chassis and body repaired areas i use red oxide primer or a etch primer and then spray it with black waxoyl, the rut has not returned on my CJ7 which i did a weldaton on 11 years ago. and it was rusty as a horse shoe before i started on it

the line X coating is amazing the Main UK importer is based in devon and i looked at using his product on van floors, the only thing i found could damage it was some thing heavy with narrow sharp feet. but as nat said its amazing stuff.
