Move on! That is neither nice, cheap or special!

His description even makes it sound as neglected as it looks (1 spot light?)

It could be an import but I doubt it, the US postal service has right hand drive Jeeps so they don't have to get out to put letters into the mail boxes. The high output (190hp) designation applies to all the 4ltr jeeps after the renix injection engines (175hp) were replaced with a chrysler system in 1991 upto 1996/7 when the injection system was changed again to power tech (190-193hp).

Lots of good information on the Cherokees here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Cherokee_(XJ)

and the Grand Cherokee here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Grand_Cherokee#ZJ

Possibly US Post Office one? Have heard that delivery vehicles in America are sometimes RHD - saves hassle with drivers being knocked down, having to go round vehicle to deliver etc etc. Just a thought...

Probably, but he would be rubbing his hands and smirking as you drove away. That is a £200-300 vehicle and even less within the trade. Also notice the bottom of the ad. "Haggling down the price invalidates the warranty"!!!!!!!

Also, it might be a 1997 registration but it is the 1996 pre-facelift model.

On a side note, no it doesn't - he's a dealer, therefore it comes with a warranty Wink Motor traders don't like that one.

but whether the warranty is actually any use, is a different question. My Cherokee developed a fairly nasty noise underneath after a couple of thousand miles, turned out to be the front prop shaft cv joint.

dealer who sold it to me ( not a Jeep dealer, a local garage ) took it back in and had the shaft 'repaired'. Ran ok for a while, conked out again... warranty had expired by this time. Dealer dithered and offered to 'repair' it again. I'd been told by this time from a well-informed source that the 'repair' was common and served no useful purpose except to keep it running for a while at around 30% ofd the cost of a replacement propshaft

couldn't reach agreement with the dealer, had it replaced elsewhere... which should have been done in the first place. Dispute is still wittering along when I haven't got anything better to do and feel ratty, but if I ever get any satisfaction I'll be pretty surprised

as it happens I worked in the Cov area for a while and I do know the vendors of the Jeep in this thread. I won't say anything except that I wouldn't buy anything there. My experience of bottom-of-the-market dealers of this sort is that their margins are actually pretty high, and they haven't the faintest idea of the history of most of their stock.
