hey all.

Having looked all over the web for info i have drawn a blank therefore I have a few questions:

1) what is better for say a long wheel base yota cruiser wire or rope?

2) how do you work out what is the right size wire/ rope? and work out the breaking strain, swl etc??

many thanks for your help...

Andy T is your best bet.
You should not have to work anything out as if you give the supplier the winch details they should be able to sell you the right one with a cert.
If it hasnt got a certificate proving what it is ( max Safe Working Load etc ) dont buy it.

Andy's Plasma 12 is good but then again so is Dyneema Bowrope. The latter seems to be able to take more punishment wear wise but the former seems to be more forgiving of snatch loading. I would go for best price between the two - haggle!

for me its plasma every time.

you may not compete with yours but we do and have used all of the main types on the market.tricky dover on here can atest to the hammer we give it with a twin gigglepin set up on the tay.

3 easy tips.

3.wash it after use see here for more info.
http://www.devon4x4.com/forum/general-enquiries/washing-plasma/

2.learn how to use plasma, it does not take abuse like wire rope.

1. dont let it drag over rocks ,trees or debris when winching.

talk to andy t on the phone (he never closes for information and advice of the old goat is free.

Hi All,
Such kind words from MDM!
Ok, all I need is the make & model of your winch.
Don't get to hung up about the vehicle cause whats most important is the pulling power of your unit.
Next, what do you plan to use your winch/vehicle for?
Self recovery/greenlaning does not abuse the equipment anywhere near as much as winch challange usage and I would recommend a thicker grade for the w/challenge scene as it will take more punishment before breaking.
Finally - you get what you pay for - I will not compete on price against inferior products!
I have been selling Plasma for about 7/8 years now - as MDM says, advice is free, call me if in doubt.

Regards,

Andy Thomlinson.
